No oval bowls, compounds or large injectors?! Gm engineers really need to get a better perspective on the buyer segment. It's settled I'm building my motor:D

Wonder what is going to run off that reluctor?

Im guessing they moved the crank sensor to the back of the engine...and maybe the oil pump too?

Interesting.

Edit: it looks like the upper oil pan doesnt drop down for the forward-most inch like the old ones do. Upper oil pan definitely looks way different.

It almost looks like the cylinders are shifted forward 1/2" compared to a cutaway of a 2001-2016 duramax.

How else would they fit the reluctor wheel? On a 2001-2016, the rear crank throw is RIGHT up against the rear-most main bearing journal....there wouldnt be any room for something between there.

I'm sure that's just for ckps. Don't see a gear in the back to drive a oil pump

Heres the only other pic I could find.

Im almost positive the oil pump is at the rear now.

Theres no more oil pump relief valve on the front cover.

To me it looks like the front cover juts out further at the harmonic balancer. And it looks like theres only one gear on the crank snout, for the cam gear.

Could they have made the front crank journal bigger?

What would be the point of just moving ONLY the CKP reluctor wheel?? Look in the oil pan, theres something there.

They obviously had to reconfigure the rear main journal and crankshaft throw to accommodate the reluctor wheel back there (it wouldnt fit on a 2001-2016 setup due to clearance)...why not move the oil pump back there?

The #8 rod would have to be located somewhere along the red line.

Theres plenty of space where the blue plane is to fit an oil pump drive gear. On next to the bottom blue line, theres something hanging down in the oil pan that is NOT a 2001-2016 style oil pickup tube.

"In the new generation engine, GM engineers has designed a new camshaft profile, a new cylinder head and a new electronically controlled, variable-vane turbocharger to allow the engine to produce more power with lower exhaust emissions. It also is quieter than the engine it replaces." Also, 0-60 and 50-70 are quite a bit faster than the 2016. I guess it should be with the additional hp and torque.
