LB7: 1058 and what turbo???

I recently got my Suncoast 1058 converter along with my trans kit, and I'm wondering what turbo would match my converter. I want something that spools well and more importantly, doesn't smoke! I was looking at a s472 for a while, but the more I think about it, the more the s472 seems like a poor choice. I was thinking something like the II Silver Bullet s366 would be a good choice?

Would the 1058 be too loose for a s475/stock compound setup? I didn't want to go with the twin setup because its a good bit more than the s366 setup, but if it's that much better.... :dontknow:

Any and all insight would be helpful! (Also, the truck is stock height with 265's, and the most I tow is 8-10k.) Thanks!

I run a 58 with an s475 single. Works great! I know of several other trucks with 400 frame singles running that converter also. It couples good for daily driving and can brake stall to around 2400.

Good to hear, but with stock fueling, wouldn't a +70mm turbo be a dog out of the hole, even with a loose converter? What about a s466/s468 with the 83mm wheel and .9 AR, that seems like a good compromise between the strength of an s400 and the spoolability of the s300 chassis?

I'm not scared of going to a bigger charger, but +70mm turbo seems to be unnecessary for a stock internal LB7 with 235k on it.

Also, I might add that I don't pull so I have no inducer restrictions to worry about.

I don't know how to post a youtube vid but go there and search LWATSON Duramax billet S475. That is a 0-90 run with my tow tune, dead standstill off idle. No power braking.

Ok, so it seems that spool-up at WOT is good, but what about around town? Like in the 0-10psi range, would you describe normal driving as "dealing with it?"

Thanks

I have the s366 your looking at. IMO it is a very good daily driver, towing, plows snow, etc still use the truck as a truck turbo. I have an AT'S 5 Star torque converter (1750 stall iirc), which is quite a bit tighter than your 1058, and it spools very fast. I have the stock TCM tune. IMO read coker6303's turbo lag thread before you buy a turbo. There is a lot of good info in it.

When I talked to Mike about my plans for my truck, I told him I was planning on doing an s475/stock down the road. He said it would work fine (sc 1058) with the stocker on its own and also with the twin setup I chose.

Not taking anything away from anybody but I had the silver 66 for almost a year. I now have a double batmo 472. IMO the 72 is ten times the turbo the 366 was. Cleaner running too. Not sluggish once I got the tuning dialed in for the 5" intake. 472 or 475 & you'll never look back.

Yup, s472 here and absolutely love it. WAY better than my Danville 72 ever was. I almost went with the industrial injection silver 66 kit then this s472 kit popped up on the forum for sale and I jumped on it. LOVE IT.

And a suncoast 1058 will be my next converter if my ml craps out on me. I've almost bought a 1058 a few times but didn't have a core to send in so I've been holding off till one pops up for sale with no core charge.

I'd prolly buy one tomorrow but since I got 2 kids it makes upgrades a little harder to do...no worries they are a blessing. Not to mention my son always wants to work on my truck :D
