08 lmm with a po341 after rebuild. And no start.

Hey guys I'm new to the sight and hope I'm posting in the right spot! I've got a 08 lmm in the shop the engine was fully rebuilt and when I set the cab back on it and got everything hooked up it won't start of course. A p0341 code comes up. So I pulled the cam sensor and noticed a rub mark on it. Swapped it for another and it also rubbed. I also pulled the pins out of the harness and ran 3 test wires eliminating a possible pinched wire. After eliminating that and having the proper 5 volt reference I resorted to taking the front of the engine apart to investigate the rubbing. I was hoping to see the reluctor wheel somehow put on wrong but looks right. Only thing I notice is the camshaft gear has a lot more gap between the block than the blown engine I have sitting here, and that's why the camshaft sensor is rubbing the reluctor wheel. Anyone know if the bolt can be re-used and what gap is normal? If that's not the problem could the ecm be bad? THANKS IN ADVANCE

The machine shop put this spacer behind the cam gear has anyone seen this before? The one on the right is the blown engines and had no spacer?? Thanks

That's what hold the cam from falling out the front, and back. You most definitely need that. So sounds like that's why it was sticking out... because it was about to fall out

It wasn't bolted to anything and I don't see it on the blown motor where exactly does it go?

Behind the cam gear. You unbolt the cam gear and pull it off. Then behind that its bolted to the block, with the cam snout sticking through. That keeps the cam from falling out the front. Then when you bolt the gear on, the plate stops the gear from falling out the back of the engine

Well that's retarded. That way it will be free to let the cam run out the front. There are 2 bolt holes that are supposed to thread into the block

I'm actually quite surprised that a machine shop would not know how to install that properly. Seems like that would be hard to forgot those bolts. I would throw a shit fit down there and wouldn't go back!

I know I'm going to sound like a dick here, but it doesn't seem like you or the machine shop is too familiar with working on a Duramax. I'm guessing that two piece cam gear is probably not put together right either. Maybe you should let someone that knows what they're doing finish up with that thing.

I'm definitely not familiar with machine shop work on a duramax. I've got 60 hours in a engine swap that normally takes me half that. But I'm not the type to take someone else boxes of parts and let then deal with my issue. This is a machine shop that I've never used before and they won't stand behind anything. I should have just waited for my normal shop to free up.

It is probably a blessing that it didnt start ,because I cant imagine any of the clearances are to spec.It needs to be evaluated by a pro,if it isnt it could cost alot more down the road.Vary sorry to hear this happened to you!

That block is fresh from a machine shop...??? I see a new oil pump and head gaskets, but it looks worse than my 200k LLY I just sold. Did that shop have any experience with a Duramax?

Engine sat a while after it was built. As far as their experience not sure. I figured they could figure it out they're a fricken well known machine shop lol....
I got everything back together today cam gear is sitting a lot better. I timed it. Still same shit p0341. I put 2 cam sensors in today its turning over great, has the right fuel pressure, scanner is getting signal from the cam sensor. 70 hrs is enough for me Guess it's time to take it somewhere. Thanks guys hope your projects are going better than mine
