Well my buddies SC IV i did for him was somewhat short lived. it started throwing codes and shift inhibited and then wouldnt shift at all.

His dealer determined the solenoids were working right and there was trash in the valvebody. they never got it running right.

I brought it home and tore the valvebody out yesterday, disassembled it and cleaned everything up all nice and purty like. When i was in there I notcied a lot of shavings, everything was black. The Trim solenoid screens were plugged.

I reassembled everything putting vaseline on all o rings and cleaning and greasing all electrical connections to be safe.

i then put in a new internal filter and spin on filter.

I filled it back up to load it on the trailer and it went into gear fine but threw 9 codes.

I took it to my dealer for them to flush it and diagnose the codes and they couldnt get it to flush. they determined the cooler was plugged or something internally was plugged.

Im going to pick it up again shortly and want to know what to do?? I plan on pulling the trans agaion and cleaning things up and checking it all over but dont know what to do about the cooler being plugged because IIRC its intergrated into the radiator.

So once I get the trans and such cleaned do i remove the radiator and have somebody try to flush out the cooler??

i dont want to stab this thing back in to have it get filled with left over particles??

Also ATS supposedly checked his converter and it was fine.

They make some aerosol cans that are designed to flush the cooler out. My dad uses it on all of the rebuilds he does. You may be able to purchase something at the auto parts store. If not i bet Mike L. could supply something for ya. My dad gets his from his tranny parts supplier and i don't think they sell to the public.

they didnt touch it, they knew to call me before performing internal repairs.

IIRC there is a cooler in the radiator and in front of it correct?? Which one should I blow through??

Do i need to remove the trans at all or should I tend to the coolers first>??

^^^exactly im still wondering if its that converter.

But anyways, I tore into it tonite some and the front little cooler was fine, removed it and blew through it just fine.

I then took mikes advice and removed the return line from the tranny and attached a 5/8 clear hose to it and ran it into a 5 gallon pail, ran the truck for a little bit and it just slowly trickled out, Mike said it should be about 80psi of pressure, and this was nowhere near that. so i guess that leaves me to believe that the tranny cooler inside the radiator is plugged. Ill remove it tomorrow night after another quick chat with mike to make sure that it is the issue, npt really sure what else it could be unless the tranny isnt pumping fluid out?

Im really worried about this converter though. I dont know if its good or not, this truck has had a lot of issues, i believe he went through 2 or 3 PPE trannies, but dont know if this converter was in all of them. The most recent one ripped the flexplate like crazy. He did send the converter into ATS and they "claimed" it was good, but I dont know where all of this junk wouldve came from.

Maybe I will still be dropping this tranny yet again.

well it is internal in the trans, i checked the flow out of the trans and there was just a small trickle. so ill be tearing the trans out and checking the pump over.

also working on having him get a different converter
