My truck is a 2003 CCSB 4wd 2500 DMAX Alli SLT. 336,000 miles. It is going to need a set of injectors soon. (catching a hint of white smoke, 105,000 miles on this set).

Instead of putting another set of injectors in, I was considering swapping over to a LBZ.

I found an 07 classic work truck 2WD, 188,000 miles. LBZ with six speed.

Build sheet of donor truck;

How hard is it to take the LBZ from the work truck and install it my 03?

Thank you for any input.

From what I understand this will be mostly "plug and play" with an 03 truck. You will need to use the LBZ trans as well so you will have to swap over the column shifter and of I'm not mistaken the cluster. I'm not sure if the 5 speed and 6 speed 4X4 tail housing is interchangeable but I'm sure someone will confirm. You will have to splice one of the coolant hoses to adapt it to your lb7 radiator or use the lbz radiator. There are other small things but certainly doable. There are a few people on here that will probably post that know this swap like the back of their hand, or better.

I went to look at the donor truck candidate last night;

1. It did not seem to have as much power as my stock tuned lb7.
2. Seem to blow a lot of black smoke, for what I would assume is a stock tuned truck.
3. It seemed to have a vibration in the engine, under power.
4. I could not hear the turbo? I was under the impression LBZ turbos were more audible than my LB7.
5. Tap shift selector did not work.
6. It has a code set, could not pull it, as someone has damaged the OBD port.
7. OBD port wires have been spliced (or tapped into), not sure why maybe a tuner?

I would like to put the OBD port back together enough, to at least get a look at what codes are set.

I told the seller I would get back with him. I could obviously buy the truck as is, and fix it prior to the swap. (Assuming the repairs are not too significant.) But my LB7 is smoking white. Not at every idle, but it is happening more frequently. If I buy the LBZ, i could end up with two trucks that don't run right.

Just thinking out loud.

If the donor is in sketchy condition already, merging the harnesses is going to be that much harder. You won't know if the electrical gremlin you are chasing is because you forgot to hook something together right, or if it is just the sketcy wiring from the donor.

Unless you are getting one heck of a deal on that donor truck, I would walk away from that one.

The OBD port wires look like it may have had remote start or an after market alarm at one point in time

You will need

Motor, motor harness (body and fuse box side)
Trans, shift bracket, shift arm
Tap shift leaver
Throttle petal, petal harness, petal bracket
Cluster (optional)
ECM/TCM

No need for the whole cooling system, the LB7/LLY lower radiator hose fits the pump..., tight but it fits.
I have a wire pin out in one of my threads on here, think it was called "LB7 to LBZ wiring" or similar. You can use the factory LBZ CAC piece and acordian boot, with a 3"L bead rolled 3" tube to connect to the factory IC boot. The drivers side I leave LB7.

What's the deal with the donor, wrecked?

It was just wooped out, it had been a work truck, sold new as a fleet truck.

Yeah, I did.

I didn't think of remote start, but you may be right.

Thanks Russ.

I will continue to look for parts.

Thanks guys for all the input.

Can I use a 2wd trans and just steal the wiring harness and valve body off of it? Install those on my 4wd 5 speed allison?

Looking at a service truck. 06 LBZ six speed. 2WD.

I called Mark at Daneville about possibly doing the tuning on this swap. He expressed a concern that my donor vehicle was a cab and service body.

The BCM on the service body handles the two fuel tanks differently. He was not sure the fuel gauge on my LB7 could be made read correctly?

Has anyone ran into an issue like this? Could this donor truck still be used, but get a ECM from another LBZ truck, that was not a service body?

I am supposed to pick up the donor this Saturday. Wondering now if I should continue with this donor or pass and keep looking.

I am not sure on the LBZ, but on the LB7 you could swap segments in the ECU to make various combinations of things work. I would think you could just flash the ECM to the standard config, just have to find a file (or a VIN to look up the file) from a standard truck.

Anyone need a service body?

Oh no, I like. Perfect swap partner. :thumb:

I was just thinking that the pic looks like it was took at the rest area just before 69 branches off EB 96 at exit 91.

I guess we'll see. Tires are new, cab is already spoken for.

I think I can make a few bucks parting it out.

It runs good.

Core support and stack are toast, but I hope to use my LB7 pieces for that.

It was.

I stopped a few times on the drive back, to check the straps and trailer tires. Trailer is borrowed.

I bought the truck from;
Fodrocy Used Cars & Parts.
Muskegon Mi.

OK, I even scared myself that I knew that. :roflmao: Congrats on the find!

Yeah, use your LB7 stack.
