You truck drivers know all the best rest stops!

I see you're playing a "Holt rest area" joke on me, eh? :roflmao:

I was just thinking that it looked familiar was all. Parking lot close to the hiway, sign on hiway out front. I drive by it every evening on the way back to the building. Just really weird that i knew it.

Holt thing? Not sure.

It is pretty amazing you recognized it. That picture doesn't show a lot of the surroundings.

So I sold the donor truck's bones. The guy wants to pick the rolling chassis up on 9/5. That is before I will have my swap complete.

I just want to double check the list of things I need to keep, before he hauls the carcass away.

From Russ;
"Motor, motor harness (body and fuse box side)
Trans, shift bracket, shift arm
Tap shift leaver
Throttle petal, petal harness, petal bracket
Cluster (optional)
ECM/TCM"

Anything else?

I would take the complete cooling stack if it isnt damaged, you may need the core support as well but im not sure if they were different

Donor was hit pretty hard in the front. Most of the stack and core support are toast. I will have to use the LB7 stack.

Got the LBZ and six speed pulled today.

Left the engine wiring attached and removed the trans harness.

Do I need this one, or is this the one I am repinning on the 03?

You will need

Motor, motor harness (body and fuse box side)
Trans, shift bracket, shift arm
Tap shift leaver
Throttle petal, petal harness, petal bracket
Cluster (optional)
ECM/TCM

No need for the whole cooling system, the LB7/LLY lower radiator hose fits the pump..., tight but it fits.
I have a wire pin out in one of my threads on here, think it was called "LB7 to LBZ wiring" or similar. You can use the factory LBZ CAC piece and acordian boot, with a 3"L bead rolled 3" tube to connect to the factory IC boot. The drivers side I leave LB7.

Can someone help me clarify what Russ mean by "Fuse box side"? on the wiring harness? Does he mean the fuse box on the end of the dash when you open the driver's door? If so, how much of that do I need? That pretty much splits up and runs through the entire cab.

Black rectangle "C2" connector under the fuse box. It goes to the bale connectors on the engine, and also toward the ECM/TCM. That whole harness section you will need. You can use the fuse box if you want also.

You won't need that cluster plug, just plug the LBZ cluster in. The plug in your hand is the main one you will be working with.

Thanks Russ, very sorry to see what happened to your Nova. Glad you are okay! :thumb:

Well I finished the project I was working on, now I can focus on getting the LBZ installed in my 03.

Here are a couple pictures of what I was working on, what I started with and how it finished out.

So here is what I believe are my next steps, please double check my logic.

Before I pulled the 06 apart, I used the V2 and read off the ECM stock tune. Having said that, This is how I believe I need to proceed.

1. Send stock tune from 06 to ATP trucks to have the EGR deleted, switched to single fuel tank config and flip the polarity for the LB7 fuel level sending unit. I also will purchase a DSP 5 from them, with their corresponding level 1 tuning. (I am not wed to ATP, they just seem to get high recommendations. If someone like Russ, can do this tuning I would certainly use him or one of the other members who have helped with these conversions. Ben is just too busy, though.)

2. Do EGR delete and PVC reroute on the LBZ, while it is sitting on the garage floor. (possibly replace #8 glow plug as well, donor truck was throwing a MIL on that)

3. Pull the T case and 5 speed alli out of the 03.

4. Stand the (5) and (6) speeds on the bellhousings next to each other. Then convert the (6) speed, to 4wd, using the tailhousing and output shaft from the (5) speed.

5. Reinstall (6) speed and T case back in the 03.

6. Remove the 03 from the lift, then pull the core support and remove the LB7.

7. Stab the LBZ back where the LB7 was.

8. Swap the 03 cluster, throttle pedal and shifter with the 06 pieces.

9. Work my way through the required wiring changes.

10. Power up the system, use the V2 to reflash the ECM.

11. Prime the fuel system, fire it up and live happily ever after. :happy2:

I don't do tuning bud, that's Robs specialty but thx.

Pull the transfer case off, then pull the motor/trans together out the front..., life will be much easier. Once out everything is easy to get to including converter bolts. If your truck is not lifted, backing the body bolts off and lifting the body slightly makes it easy to clear the oil pan/front diff. Everything else above sounds good. Make sure you use the 6spd P2 as the 5spd won't index in the 6spd P1.

Well, that wasn't too awful bad. Seeing as how the motor is sitting on a couple tires! LOL!

I'll use the gaskets, as templates for block off plates, then button it back up.
