I totally understand. Electrical is not my specialty and I have a shit $20 code reader from amazon. I'll submit to the fact that I can't fix everything myself and take it to a pro. I do appreciate everyone's thoughts and suggestions!
No luck fixing the problem. I finally found time to take it to a professional shop. They were gracious enough to throw the code reader on it for me. It had two stored codes related to the TPS; P2122 and P2138. I replaced the TPS and no dice, it's still giving the "Reduced Engine Power" message...
Any recommendations on what a “good scanner” would be? I’m assuming that my $20 foseal from Amazon won’t cut the mustard in this case. I tried it and it’s not telling me anything useful.
I'll change out the fuel filter. Is there an easy way for me to test whether the MAF and TPS are still in good working condition? It seems that those are two common root causes of REP message.
I’m in Modesto right now. Getting a new front passenger side tire put on tomorrow (Saturday), and then I’ll be in foresthill all Sunday.
Thursday was a bit of a disaster. Something punctured my front passenger tire badly in between Burbank and Santa Clarita at around 7PM. Couldn’t get the spare...
I feel the same way, but I don’t want to make such an expensive upgrade to a truck that I plan on selling in the near future. On the other hand there’s no way I’m selling this truck until I’m 100% sure the root cause of the problem has been identified and corrected. I really wish this thing was...
Whelp, the problem decided to pop back up almost immediately when we were leaving San Diego. Went over the grapevine with surprising ease. I think I remember reading that REP will happen when the accelerator pedal starts failing. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
I can also make REP go away...
Did the rebuild today. The old o-rings were work hardened and not pliable anymore. One of the primer seals had gone flat or dead, the best way I can describe it. Took the truck out and put her through her paces. No REP message but that doesn't mean much. I've gone days and weeks without seeing...
I used an aerosol MAF cleaner, not brake cleaner or anything like that. I can't find the can right now so I can't tell you exactly what it was. MAF would probably trigger the CEL, no?
Thanks. I started the truck. It fired right up but the REP message was displayed immediately. I turned the truck off and pumped the primer. Started the truck back up and the message was gone, but then REP came back while backing out of my driveway. I went to home depot anyways because I can deal...
Truck has always fired right away. Never had a problem with that. The primer can be pumped until it gets hard, so maybe that will help the problem. This problem can happen at any time, not just on start up. I got the reduce engine power message the other day while waiting at a stop light. I can...
Just to be sure, trying pushing the fuel filter primer button while the engine is running? Or not running? Do you think the problem is that it might be drawing in air?
Thanks guys. I'll try those things and report back. The truck has 360K miles btw and runs great. I put a ton of work into rehabbing it and giving it the TLC it needs after I bought it off a contractor at 340K miles.
Hey guys,
I recently started having trouble with my LBZ. At random times the "Reduced Engine Power" message will display with no CEL and no codes (I carry a foseal reader with me). This message will clear if I turn the truck off for a while and let it sit. All the fluids are fresh, the MAF...
I don't want to de-rail the thread, but reading it got me interested in the underlying principles of torque converters. I think I understand them but I have a question. A stock duramax makes peak torque at around 1600 rpm I believe, but the stall of the stock converter is at around 2000 rpm...
I’m also interested in how this unit worked out since the end shaft seal in my gearbox is blown. I looked up the rock auto part number posted in the first page and it looks like this beefier unit was used in various Chevy/gmc vehicles.
Awesome story dude, and good for your getting your truck back. I wish I could get my 92 Dodge W250 that I bought when I was 18 back. They guy I sold it to still own the truck, but unfortunately a tree fell on it.
I reupholstered my headliner. It’s not that difficult and mine turned out okay. It would have turned out great had I slowed down, read the directions, and maybe watched a YouTube vid first. If I did another it would probably come out looking like factory. The prep work was a real pain in the...
