IE: From that ARP doc. NOTE: LOCTITE MAY BE USED IF A PERMANENT MOUNTING OF THE STUDS IS PREFERRED. THE FASTENERS, HOWEVER, MUST BE TORQUED PRIOR TO THE LOCTITE SETTING UP.

That's actually what I asking. Let me rephrase. Is the goal of using Loc-Tite on block side of a stud to keep the stud from spinning down and bottoming out when torquing, or to actually keep if from rotating after torquing? Goes back to that bottomed out stud threads vs backed out 1/4 turn...

    Twins with Twins, Anyone?

Ok so now my next "best even torque technique" question has to be, 1/4 turn Loc-Tite vs lightly bottomed threads. I'm just guessing here, but our primary goal is to allow all the studs to fully float evenly thru heat and pressure cycles. Which bottomed they likely do not. So using Loc-Tite...

Dang it. Why didn't I think of that one?? Tape job is probably our best option. With some tack-cloth stuffed down each hole being cut. Was actually first material that came to mind watching that demonstration.. All down with cover, cut, clean, repeat. Plus just hooked up the air compressor in...

Thanks for that link. Looks easy enough. Until he got to the 9:35 mark, says put the deck level on the stand. My stands don't rotate... LOL. But I don't see why it wouldn't work fine how they sit. Being mindful of the angle. More concerned about the metal shavings generated however. Bet I...

Yes you are different.. LOL. The loc-Tite vs lube approach is a new one for me. Some like dry, some say molly, some motor oil, but this one is new to me. At least we agree on the 1/4 turn. But what do ya do if a stud dose spin in when torquing?

Yeah that's the tool my buddy said to check out. Was told a local engine builder here has one I can use. To which I said, I'll rent the tool if he comes with it. Or I could dig up a junk block to practice on first.. Back about 70 pages, think we discussed ringing the heads vs the blocks when...

I'm with ya James on the trying to set all the same at start. No matter what your approach. Personally, old school back em out a 1/4 turn. Others say lightly tighten with allen wrench. So long as all are done the same, torque values should be equal. When I put the exhaust studs into these...

Checked the other side deck and head. Deck is also under .002 and head looks to be about .005 in the middle. Drops to around .003 as ya move up towards long edges. Studs over there all about the same, hit or miss. Half required the specialty tool. So we can deduct a few things from that I...

Yeah I had one that wasn't responding well to the pipe wrench technique. And luckily my buddy had a whole drawer full of variable sizes. The #10 version worked well for all the rest. But on the last one, I hit it with the impact gun on the allen head while torquing on the wrench and it finally...

Ok with a specialty wrench from The Ridge Tool Co, all studs removed. Couple of them were 35ftlb or so.. Not what I expected, but is what it is. Glad to say the deck seems straight. Or at least under a 002in feeler range on a common steel straight edge bar. Corner to Corner, top to bottom, see...

Found these laying under desk where I'd stashed for later reference, after replacing both sets years ago. The used gaskets shown, are obviously the GM LML version we replaced. So we know for certain happy child is running "Mahle Origional" C's 54585 What I don't know for certain, what just...

Those 2 holes got washed down with coolant pretty good on that last run. Soot layer didn't have much spray pattern to examine, looking back at the pics. Polishing those piston tops seems to work well at keeping soot from sticking actually.

I picked up a good straight edge and feeler set from a machine shop buddy tonight to check the deck. Started pulling studs, and noticed many of them siezed to where a 3/8 dewalt impact won't break em loose. Gonna have to double nut em.. And that causes some concern. On the flow direction...

Thanks for the valued advice guys. And hindsight is 20 20 on the o-rings.. I bet they'd be good to 900ish with studs alone. Both run fine all day at 750hp. Tends to say I may have been over confident in that 900#... And while I hate to do it this way, if I have to yank that crank, this block or...

I've never actually sprayed a diesel personally. However back in the 90s, I sprayed a hundred different gassers. NOS dealer for a decade, and beta tested the first progressive controller unit to hit the market. My specialty was extremely well hidden street systems. Like direct port under the...

Kinda why I was wondering if anyone had noted actual stretching on the Dmax studs. Both sets were ordered at same time. And this set, been torqued 3 times now. But as noted, few of them felt like maybe 60-70lbs when broke em loose. Anyone here ever re-torque after running? I've seen where...

Nice example. And as he stated, no reported issues with engine before the tear down. I'm thinking the science will show us that the combo of couple thou low in that area, and the thicker C gaskets, equals all good for first few cycles. Then the old head gasket starts to warble a bit. Both head...

Yeah that was part of the reason I wanted new Used. What's funny, when we first installed them in the boat, and got a few hours on em, that engine started leaking pressure in the upper 30's low 40's Psi range. We swapped heads, and it made no pressure on coolant with gauge making around 42psi...

Used, ultra low millage. Didn't need any bore work, but I wanted them both fresh with that .001 over bore for high revs and high heat. I believe a while back we also discussed the extra 0.0015 they somehow grew, that we only found after the dyno tear down. Not saying anything, nope, zip it...
