In 98.5 cummins went to a vapor bottle on there motors. Is was just a large had plastic bottle with large holes around the neck to catch all the oil and vapors and still let the engine breath. You might try to fab something like this up if your worried about upsetting people.
Overly excessive is when it it has so much pressure, it blows oil out of every gasket on the truck. A good compression is 400-450. Yours is getting a little tired. Heck I've seen them so bad they would blow the oil dipstick out 8" up out of the tube after a wot run.
It's just blow by from your rings. They all do that, some are just worse than others. I have seen seals go out of turbos and cause this also. I have also seen a piston bust off one side of the pin bore, the pin hit the cylinder wall and put two 1/4" grooves in the bore and the motor still pass a...
Exactly, my first thought before I got to really inspecting it was, the motor has to come out to reseal the upper oil pan. My next motor, I'll rig up air on a regulator to check seal on the oil system and coolant system, while it's on the stand.
Just a update, you can unbolt the cooler and slide it out just a little and the adapter will slide right out. Becareful though oil and antifreeze will go everywhere. I'll fill with water tomorrow and check for leaks.
Gasket got tore somehow on assembly, new gasket going in and put it back together tomorrow. When I took it apart it was in the groove. Guess it's just one of those things that happen.
I found the really bad oil leak, I am having on the new motor build. It is coming from the passenger side lower valve cover gasket. Gasket is brand new, any thoughts to this. Should I loosen the valve cover and try a re-torque and feeler gauge around it to make sure it dosen't leak or replace...
The thick rubber one is fine. I am having trouble with the metal one with a coating. Is there a certain direction the raised center part faces? I really don't want to remove the cooler, I hope I can loosen it up and remove a couple bolts.
It depends, there is a carrier break on the gear sets. 4.10 and numberically higher and 3.73 and down. If you get a rebuild kit and put a extra clutch and plate in them it will be almost like a full spool. It might get you through till winter
I got a coolant leak at the oil cooler where the 90 degree piece bolts from the cooler to the flywheel housing. It's leaking where the oil cooler bolts to the 90 degree piece. Any thoughts on this leak? Is there any sealers you guys recommend putting on the gasket to help it seal? It's a brand...
