LMM and up has the aluminum cased ones that are more durable then the earlier models. I think the internals are the same through. Not sure about the L5P with it's different transmission

What's the application or use that makes you seak out the "best"

I'm putting a 4bt Cummins and an Allison 1000 transmission in my Chevy S-10.

You should be fine with any of the transfer cases that where used. If it's a magnesium one just make sure it has a pump rub kit installed

The 4bt is not going to be more demanding then a Duramax

You're worried about a transfer case, and you're planning to run the stock IFS on an S10 with a Cummins on top of it?

Not the S10 transfer case. Generally saying the factory or OEM transfer case would imply what came behind the Allison in a GM vehicle, not what came behind the S10 driveline.

The factory transfer case behind a 4wd Allison 1000 is either a 261xhd (manual shift) or 263xhd (electronic shift)
