All of mine are practically ancient but weren't being used for anything so I put them to use. I have a Dell XPS that I may pull out eventually.

I am currently running 5 clients.

Custom Built (~10 yrs ago) - Running 2 GPUs
Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Manchester 2.0GHz (Old School Socket 939 stable to 3.0GHz OC)
ASUS A8N-E
2Gb Kingston RAM
EVGA GTX460 768-P3-1360-TR (2 in non-SLI)

HP 6000 Pro - Running 1 GPU and 1 SMP
Celeron E3300 2.5GHz
HP 3048H
4Gb RAM
Sparkle GT430

Dell GX280 - Running 1 Unicore
Celeron 325 2.53GHz (Have a 3.2GHz P4 I am going to drop in sometime)
Dell 0H7276 (doesn't support a multi-GPU card in the PCIe-x16 slot so my 9800GX2 is not in use)
512Mb RAM
*will be adding a GTX460 probably

***You can always click the "Live HFM" link in my sig to see what's going on.

Santa brought Dad "CrayZ3":

  • Lian Li PC-V2120 case
  • Rosewill 1000w powersupply
  • EVGA SR-2 motherboard
  • 2x X5650 Xeon processors (6 core x 2.66ghz)
  • 2x Noctua CPU fans
  • 6x 1GB DDR3-1333 RAM
  • 2x 1TB Hitachi HDD in RAID 0
  • ATI HD 5770 1GB GDDR5
It consumes 215 watts at idle, and 355 watts under max load. This is measured with a Kill-a-Watt: http://www.amazon.com/P3-Internatio...MDBU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1293318113&sr=8-1
Runs 52°C max CPU core temps under load, 29°C at idle.
No stable PPD yet on it.

I'm going to run dual GTX460's in SLI on it, but they didn't arrive in time. The 5770 is a $120 card that I bought for my desk at work.

I'm interested to see what your watt-meter shows after installing the 2 gtx 460's. Keep us updated would you.

Well, finally got the 8 core opteron server going with 16 threads and Linux ( Ubuntu 10.4 ). I'll have to wait till the WU is done to try and rebuild so I can post specs. What a job. I finally used " Wine " to get a benchmark for straight Linux and will get a Windows 2003 Server benchmark as well.

Next, the Dual core Xeon Server.

I just gambled. :scare:

I turned CrayZ3 up to to 3.9ghz. Factory setting is 2.6 ghz.

It went from using 350w of power up to 520w.

I don't know if it's stable. It is clocking at 112k PPD on air. :lildevil:

But you only live once...

Sorry guys I am totally lost on this, my quadcore has tackled 2 2000 WU and my laptop has done one 2000WU and 2 250WU. But my stats aren't showing anything? If I check my quere it shows my step by step on both computer of the completed WU's but it's not recording anywhere else... What am I doing wrong? My office computer is very capable unit don't know the spec's just know it's a quad core...

No problemo. If it's running, it's helping cure disease.

When I get to the house this weekend I'll post it up in another thread so I don't screw this thread up. I am just very competitive I guess I wanna better the DuramaxDiesels team

I realize and I am thrilled my work is helping to cure disease with my grandmother in the final stages of alzimers and watching her decline I will do what I can to help cure these diseases. Thanks for bringin this to attention amazing stuff for sure.

There are a bunch of computers as part of this team, only some have posted there builds/computers. I'm pretty sure we could all benefit by everyone posting, we could even use all specs to pick and choose new builds or fluff some of our closet processors. I have a bunch of oldies myself, but no idea what to do with them.

Come on, post up

These seem to be kicking out steady ppd judging from your stats.

Just curious if your athlon x4 puts out more than the gt 240? Or, is it the opposite?

the 240 seems to be doing better. I just switched the athlon to the smp jobs so we will see how it does. Hfm now show the 240 to be at 4000 ppd. We had some storms here and the 450 got turned off tonight, I will try to get it back going in the morning but it is at my office around 40 min away.

User name Mike:

AMD 4600+ 64bit 2.4ghz dual core ( cheap Athlon 64 fx-60 on the way to try ) - GTX 460 overclocked to 875mhz ~ 11.5k ppd.

I run the -bigadv -smp 3

AMD Laptop 4200+ 2.1ghz dual core - snail but does contribute around 700ppd if I run -bigadv and -smp 4 and can finish in time to get bonus points. Otherwise, running 4 uni-clients nets 5 - 600ppd.

In the works

Zeon dual core 3.2ghz w/Hyper Threading - (x2) - [ server ] and linux - Windows VM x 8

AMD Quad core Opteron 2360 2.5ghz - ( Also going to try Opteron 2352 HE 2.1ghz ) (x2) with (2) - gtx 460 GPU's at x8 -[ server ] and linux.
May do the windows VM x 15 one thread will be dedicated to GPU requirements for folding. May also try the Windows Server 2003 OS.

More to come as it's assembled.

AMD Quad core Opteron 2356 2.3ghz - ( [ not fast enough ] Also going to try Opteron 2393 SE 3.1ghz [ when I can find them cheap enough and will then do the 2 GPU clients ] ) (x2) with [ yet to do and will not be able to if I run bigadv on these 2356's (2) - gtx 460 GPU's at x8 ] -[ server ] and linux running Wine .

In the works

Zeon 3.2ghz w/Hyper Threading - (x2) probably -smp - [ server ] and linux

CrayZ3 is an EVGA SR-2 motherboard. These are the only dual CPU boards I know of that supports overclocking. They are pricey, about $600. IT WILL NOT FIT IN A NORMAL TOWER. You either have customize a large tower, or get the Lian Li PC-V2120. If you don't need to overclock, ASUS makes a ATX Dual Xeon mobo that fits inside a normal ATX case, even a mid size. They are about $260 at NewEgg, IIRC.

The cheapest CPU's worthy of such boards are 4-core E5620's ($384 ea, Westmere with HT) which are what I have in CrayZ2. Stock clocks will make 42k PPD, overclocked about 70k would be my guess. Maybe more. Cheapest 6-core (Westmere) is X5650 which is what I have in CrayZ3, but they are about $1000 each. Good news is they can be overclocked right up there with the $1000 i7-980X. That is good for over 100k PPD average.

Be aware that both Intel and AMD are releasing new server chips in the near future. My timing was really dumb. Prices might fall rapidly on the Xeons if AMD Bulldozer stuff is hot. Intel prices their chips pretty aggressive in the performance areas that AMD runs in. Outside that area, they charge up the arse.

Best Bang for the Buck in Bigadv folding is the i7-950 chip. I turned Tom's up to 4.06ghz easily. It makes up to 32k PPD folding bigadv. The chip is only $290, and the mobo's can be as little as $200 for a "hot" one that has all the O/C tools. Tom's is a MSI Big Bang. This is the chip Intel uses to keep AMD X6 at bay. The other i7 chips are far more money.

PS - That was the last BigAdv for Kat. That one took 3 days to finish. There will be users: CrayZ1 = 4ghz AMD X6, CrayZ2 = 2x Xeon 2.4ghz, and CrayZ3 = 2x Xeon 4ghz.

I'm going to try and figure out how to get CrayZ1 to fold BigAdv. It's fast enough, and stable enough. It's just looked down on by the Old Guard.
