LB7: Lb7 turbo carnage

While heading to look at a jobsite this morning I got pulled over. I havent recalibrated my speedo for the tires. Cruise was set at 76 for 70 mph zone. Said i was doing 80. While merging back onto the highway the old ihi let loose. Having a great Monday so far

That sucks. The only good thing is that you will get a new (bigger) turbo.

No experience with the Danville modded IHIs, but I doubt you'll have any issues.

You blew up the turbo on stock tuning?

What does the stage II measure? I couldn't find it on their website only stage 1 and 2.5 class

It's the 2.5 measures 63.5 iirc

Just got it back to the shop. Hopefully the antisieze makes the eghaust bolts a little easier to deal with. Hopefully some destruction pics to follow

Drove it on the trailer. A little smoke was coming from the eghaust pipe. Crossing my fingers nothing else is hurt, and it was just burning remaining oil.

Yes all stock tuning. I had this turbo rebuilt by another local guy, after I ported and polished the cover and had him install a batmo wheel. It lasted for 60k miles. There were no waste gate mods to speak of installed. It only made stock pressure. But the turbo itself had 300k miles on it

I like the whistles they go woo woo. I wasn't easy on it for sure. That batmo sounds really good!!!! There are probally a hand full of times I can remember that it actually did a legitimate surge. Not a every day occurrence for sure. I think the guy I had do the rebuild on it was not very good. He did a buddys turbo for his 7.3 and it let loose with around 8-10k miles on it. I chalked it up to he didn't let his truck cool down after towing and he had a lead foot. Same guy blew up the super b replacement turbo on the same truck.

Sorry to see your bad luck but glad we can get you taken care of. This 2.5IHI Stg2 of mine is a 63.5mm Billet wheel(my personal design) and is good up to 670hp with no sacrifice of lowend just more mid and top end power with it. Make the truck a lot of fun to drive.:thumb:

What's the max pressure you've seen it take?

At 670hp it was 38psi iirc.
