and swapped a 4wheeler for this gem. It's an 82 6.2/700r4 4x4. Mechanically in excellent shape. Paint sucks and the body has a little rust here and there. Everything works, even the power rear window and a/c.
I've already: bypassed factory lift pump and added a 6.5 electric pump near the tank
Advanced the timing a few degrees and cranked the pump up 1/8 turn
Plans are:
Skinny 37-38" tires with no lift
Regear to 4.56 or 4.88
Possibly throw a cheap automatic locker in the diffs too
6.5 exhaust manifold and a Chinese hx35 turbo
My goal is to have something I can cruise around the mud hole in all day in a/c then drive home.

I would build a manifold I hate the stock setup on those. There fun engines, i broke both of mine lol 6.5s don't like 17 psi and 4600 rpm on 36 inch tires.

think those 10 bolt axles are gunna stand up to 37s? lol

you might just search around for a m1008 and swap its axles under it. they came factory with 4.56 gears, and d60 front and 14bolt rear.

You don't count, you break everything . Thought about doing something more custom with it but I think I'm just going to go bolt on parts. Got bigger plans for it down the road.
Love the K 5s I had 1 and wish I never sold it.Would be awesome to.install.the d max in it.:thumb:
This is my bigger plan for down the road

She's definitely no speed racer. I drove it all week. When I got in the white truck Saturday I would have sworn it was a damn top fuel car

Love the ol GM square-bodies!

There's a guy with a K5 down south somewhere (I think in FL or GA) that has a duramax in it. He's a young kid so it has some "riced out" features (colorshift lights, LED light bars, etc) but it actually seems like a nice build. I saw it on Instagram. Power to weight ratio is killer!

I saw a picture of one that supposedly had a Duramax in it but I never saw any specifics or under hood pictures. I'd love to swap a Duramax in but I'm pretty sure the only thing that would hold any kind of power would be the transfer case haha. So it would be like dominoes. Trans, shafts, axles, suspension would all need upgraded to be reliable.

The 700r and 10 bolt axles would not live long. Especially with the size and weight of the tires I plan to run.

His is a chassis swap. 2500HD w/ K5 skin.

Maybe Google "durachase" & look for images. It's flat black & Lifted. He's drag-raced it too. LOL

Picked up a set of 6 lug 16" Hummer wheels for it. Spaced them out with a set of 1.5" wheel spacers on each corner. Should give me the perfect back spacing to shove these up into the fenders. With the help of a cutoff wheel of course

I love old k5's. Minus the 10 bolts and 700 they are tough as nails. I have had 10 bolts that have survived hell in some trucks and some that fail with just city driving unloaded.

Nothing is worse than cruising at 40 mph and then the rear tires locking up followed by a loud bang and start rolling backwards.... I have 2 humvee tires goodyear mt on the factory beadlocks. Too bad you arent close man.

I'm going to run my axles till they pop. They aren't worth selling in working order anyway. Only money I'll throw at them is a set of cheap deeper gears. Luckily the transmission has been rebuilt already so hopefully it holds up to the raw power that is a 6.2 Detroit :D

Scrapped plans on the 38s after one blew up in the bed of my white truck. I was literally seconds away from grabbing it and putting it on the blazer. Scared the hell out of me. uploadfromtaptalk1436230648474.jpg
Man it was going to look good though
24a89ef3ac7f230bf4aaaf32a3d45c0e.jpg

For now just going to stick with 285/75/16 a/t's. I have decided to just buy a new set of 37x12.50x17 trail grapplers at some point. Not sure what kind of wheels I'll mount them on though.
I also think I'm going to try mounting a military hmmwv turbo in the valley using the hmmwv manifolds and piping.
Video shows us cruising at 70mph down i75 with radio going and a/c blowing. We put 200 miles on it just yesterday.

+1 with James about those 10 bolts and the meats. They won't last long... Square bodies are bad ass!

Yeah y'all are right for sure. But the nice thing is with how incredibly under powered it is I'll be able to limp them along for some time I have no doubt.
I timed 0-60 today. About 20 seconds. Based on the amount of smoke at the end of second gear and the unique smell I estimate egt's were about a million degrees, give or take.

Needs more air in a bad way

Lol you would think so but I snapped a front u joint and rear axle on a cvcu blazer we had at DPS as a plow rig. It was only on 31s too. Never would have expected it for as damn under powered as it was. I did pull a semi up an ice hill with it after I fixed her up though. That was funny. 3k RPM, 2nd gear 4 low, and a nice little stream of smoke coming out each exhaust lol

Durachase1 is that guy's name on insta, little cheesy with dual light bars and colorshift lights but still badass with a duramax under the hood.

Yeah, all of his mods are inline with others his age (colorshifts, lightbars, blah blah blah) and certainly not my cup of tea but the basis of the build is pretty sweet!
