Have any of you guys watched the videos Banks is doing on aftermarket differential covers?

I've never been a fan of them, just like deep trans pans, but for a few different reasons.

It seems pretty interesting especially since he seems to be trying to prove the stock one is the best route. So it doesn't seem like the beginning of a sales add, just a good unbiased test. (So Far)...

He put that out about a month or so ago. Has he done anymore testing since? Very interesting though. I’ve had a magtec on my truck since 2002 so be interested to see what he comes up with

Yea, there was a new one a few days ago, and a new one today. He still hasn't finished the series though.

Watched the other two. He makes one hell of a compelling argument. Really interested to see what he gets when they are all tested. I might swap to a stock one lol

Thanks for the link. That clear cover in the video today must have cost him a few dollars. It is the fist time I have seen inside a diff while it was running in all my years of working on them. Can't wait to see the numbers when he gets done. Almost want to go and buy something from Banks just so we can see more R&D like this.

He’s awful to listen too. Rambles on. 10 min to tell a 2 min story.

So to save people time, in the first video, stock cover, 200hp through it steadily for an extended time, 75w-90 synthetic oil, temp topped out at 336F.

Will see what the aftermarkets do. I haven’t seen the other vids yet.

One thing I like about the aftermarket ones is the dipstick. Nicer than pulling a plug and leaking oil all over if it was overfilled. Outside of that I dunno if they benefit anything or not.

I thought the anemometer in the first video was just a fan to keep him cool while filming till he said something:roflmao:. I know what a wind speed monitor is it just looked strange under the truck. I'm more used to seeing them on the boom of a crane.

Oh yeah good info and testing for sure and as said nobody that makes the products have ever put out anything saying they tested them. I honestly thought someone had as they have been out forever.

I guess being there is no temp sensor and diffs don’t give as much trouble as the other end of the truck does so nobody thinks about them.

He’s like bad porn. Better on ffwd. I’ve seen the first two, I’ll have to check for #3.

TX of course
I’m kind of interested if he provides any data about fill level. Way back when we all used to bitch about GM being cheap skates and not filling the diff all the way up to the fill hole. Which was standard practice not the what 1.5 qts they put in? Makes me a little suspicious that we didn’t know as much as we thought we did.

Meh. The oil after run in both videos don’t look much different to me. I’ll agree the curved housing is probably better for oil flow but there’s no pump in there so who cares. Let’r splash.

i want to see the temp differential that backs what hes stating. Im kinda with Dale at this point, im not seeing a HUGE difference between the ford 9.75 stock cover and the dodge 11.5 with maghytech on it. if it truely is working the fluid that much more, temps will show it.

It does seem the fluid drop amount is higher with the bigger cover but its hard to compare apples to apples since he didnt do a stock see through cover on the 11.5, just the ford 9.75.

Way back when, maghytech use to claim a drop in temp from stock (gave a certain amount but i dont remember) and there is a port in my cover to measure diff temps. im pretty sure i still have the original info from them from 2002. see if i can dig it up.
