Hey guys got the box off from my truck, just put fresh lines underneath it, touched up frame after steam power washed it. Used a epoxy based black paint, adheres good and blends in with factory stuff.
Next move is re-sealing the bottom of the box. Where all the bed rails were, all spot welds were starting to show a little rust and where the bed was resting against my gooseneck plate. I ground it all down and going to power wash it tonight and let it sit and I want o reseal it back up.

What should I use. This is not a show truck, but something I do like to keep looking nice. It's honestly never seen a winter, all this crap is just from never being costed and from sitting. Again I'd like to just seal it up.

So primer ? Then paint? Or do you suggest something else. Lmk plz

Ppg epoxy primer/ sealer DP 40 is white 42 is grey and 90 is black epoxy you want an epoxy because it can be sprayed on bare metal and doesnt need a etching primer. Then I would just spray single stage overs it to match truck body.

I have a couple paint stores I guess, but next thing. I don't have a gun or dry air. Can you brush this stuff on?

If you have a Sherwin Williams I would look for there 3579 standard primer binder from the general polymers line. It is a 100% solids epoxy that is normally sold for there flooring products but is also recommend for steel

Also these are a good product to look at but I am not as familiar with them as the general polymers products

Epoxy primer, if you want it to last.

Don't get too hung up on brands. PPG / DuPont / Matrix / ShopLine. There's a lot of them out there (most are made in the same facility).

Use a automotive grade DTM (direct to metal) epoxy primer.

You have a compressor?

Hit Harbor Freight and buy a HVLP gun. Fine for primer.

Cheap compressor will provide enough air for short burst of spraying, if your just doing spot work.

If you don't have air maybe something like this would be a better option?

I have a descent compressor, but I thought you needed some pretty damn dry air to paint. That's the only down fall. My dryer is pretty poor

Only if your going for a nice finish. On your frame I wouldn’t worry about even having a dryer.

Put one of these on the air inlet of your gun.

Drain the tank of your compressor each time before you spray. Your tank should have a drain valve on the bottom, open it up, leave it open until the water stops coming out.

I drain it every day because of all the moisture. I have a local harbor freight. I'll go check it out! Thanks

This thread is interesting to me since I will be doing the very same this summer. I have a spray gun I can borrow and an 80 gallon compressor, but I have absolutely no experience with painting out of anything other than a rattle can.

Tons of vids on YouTube. The frame and under side of the bed are good things to learn on.
