Hi

I am looking to get a 2011 2500 crew cab short box duramax to pull my 40ft goosneck race trailer that will weight around 16000 lbs once all the gear will be inside.
Wondering if the 2500 will be ok or should I check and upgrade to a 3500 dually

Thanks

The 2500 will handle it but I think you would like a 3500 dually a lot better when it comes to pulling something that big and heavy. A dually just makes everything feel more stable when pulling something heavy like that. If you decide to use a 2500 though I would strongly recommend a set of airbags for the back of the truck.

Yea power train is the same, but the pin weight will be way over a 2500's rating. Not sure what the 5th wheel rating of the newer trucks is, but my 2006 is only rated to 14,200. Either way, I would at least go with a 3500 SRW minimum. If you have no aversion to a dually, go that way, best overall.
