I use a cut off wheel, cut a notch almost to the shaft. Then take a chisel and split it and it falls off.

Saves pulling the box down. Takes about 30 min total.

Doesn’t answer your question, but it’s functiona, time saving and free.

How I do all of them. It helps to have a half worn down wheel for the last little bit by the box. Usually one good brap from the air hammer in the cut and off it falls.

i have the snap on one thats $300 , used it once when i didnt have a cut off helping a friend lift his truck.
but i too usually slice the old one down near the taper . falls right off with the heat from an abrasive cut off.
