I have a question for guys with ZF6's and have high-idle/PTO wired up on their trucks...

Does the parking brake have to be set for high idle to work?

Preferably Id like to hear from 2006 LLY (LBZ) guys.

Im doing an LBZ/ZF6 standalone harness for a customer and he wants me to set up PTO/high idle on it...but I dont know if the ECM needs to get a message from the BCM (since the parking brake switch is only wired to the BCM obviously) that the parking brake is set before it will allow high idle to engage.

Obviously if the ECM needs a "parking brake is set" message from the BCM, Ill have to tell him that its not going to work...but it would be nice if I could get it figured out since obviously I dont have a ZF6 2006 LLY here to test it on.

Thanks
Ben

I was working on an Lly awhile ago with high idle..... E brake did not need to be applied for it to engage.

ok cool!

So it looks like the ECM only needs to see 0 mph, no clutch pedal pressed, and no brake pedal pressed.

At least on the 04-05 LLY...I cant imagine 06 LLY is different?

I'm doing a high idle soon on my 01 zf and need to know if you still just wire the pin wire from the ecm to the brake pedal? And if it will shut off with the brake? Or does it wire in somewhere else

Lol no one? Everything i look up says brake pedal but didn't know if it was some wire only on autos. Since the brake has to be applied to shift it into gear?

If It was me an I wanted high idle I would put it in one of my dsp5 spots

High idle on DSP-5 is sketchy...what happens when you accidentally turn the DSP-5 knob to the high idle position while you're driving/sitting at a stop light in traffic...........???

I know it isn't safe and not for everyone but my truck will not push through the brakes if I put it on the high idle tune. But I do completely agree with you that it is probably sketchy with the wrong person using it. Its not for everyone for sure.

You crash !

Just don't flip your dsp switch at the stop light ;)

Yes I know if you're smart its no problem...but it still just sketches me out...if you let someone else borrow your truck, etc...

I hope no professional tuners out there are sending out high idle tunes...lawsuit waiting to happen.

I made my own. I actually put it in the base tune since I never use that tune except for high idle. If my DSP switch ever goes bad, gonna be a long ride home

Pretty sure the parking brake has to be set on a ZF6, I am actually looking for a 2007 LBZ Vin with factory RPO code UF3 so I can grab the System Segment and the BCM info if necessary to add it to my 2007.

I know I just added it to my Denali and it required a BCM and ECM reflash to make it work and the brake has to be set.

Most likely your customer will need a BCM programmed as well for the Hi-Idle/PTO feature to enable the whole thing.

Good Luck

Tony its plug and play on your LBZ................and the BCM has absolutely nothing to do with it on your LBZ!!

wire up a switched 12v source to pin 8 and pin 60 of the C1 connector and away you go.

The ECM needs to see the trans in park/neutral, 0 mph VSS, and no brake pedal applied for PTO/high idle to work on an automatic truck. You dont have to set the parking brake on any 01-07 automatic truck.

Im asking about a ZF6 truck. The service manual says 0mph, no brake applied, no clutch applied, and parking brake set. I dont believe that, I think the service manual is wrong. So Im asking for confirmation from 01-06 ZF6 guys if the parking brake has to actually be set, if the ECM is looking for a data message from the BCM that the parking brake is set.

A couple guys have responded that, at least on 01-05 ZF6 trucks, the parking brake DOES NOT HAVE to be set (proving my theory, and proving that the service manual is wrong)...I cant see why 06 LBZ would be different.

Edit: I originally wrote "the parking brake has to be set on 01-05 ZF6 trucks"...I meant to write "does NOT have to be set", as Dylan and a couple others mentioned.
