Let me preface by saying I am not beyond tapping my fingers on the steering wheel if Im getting flustered by a dingbat driver or flipping someone the bird when they piss me off on the road......but damn.....not this.

I'm heading back to the building on I-96 tonight about 19:15. Cruising at 65, not really thinking about much except whats on the road. Up ahead I see road workers on the shoulder, lights going. In Michigan, we're required to give them a lane whenever possible. So I move left, as it was clear behind me.

Ahead of me are a silver minivan in the right lane and a blue cavalier station wagon (he had just passed me earlier) on the left, just behind the van. Both these people should see the workers, as its a clear open area. The silver van signals to get over, and the cavalier, being in the van's blind spot, wouldnt back away to give room. So naturally, theres going to be a near-collision between the two. The cavalier hits his brakes and moves to the shoulder to avoid the van. Im sitting behind these two, so I can see all this plain as day. Now Im alert to trouble. They didnt disappoint me.

Well, after we clear the workers, the van gets back over to the right. The cavalier gets up next to him, and slows. I can just see the driver turning his head at the van driver. This is all happening about 150 feet in front of me, so naturally Im slowing, waiting for anything. Next thing I know, the cavalier swerves in front of the van and locks up his brakes. No shit...on the freeway! Luckily the van moves to the left lane and avoids the guy. The van accelerates, and the cavalier keeps pace, and then slows as he approaches the passenger side of the van.....then AGAIN swerves in front of the van and locks his brakes up!!! The van avoids the cavalier again, this time on the right.
The cavalier must have felt he made his point, because he then accelerated in the left lane and got about 1/2 mile in front of the van.

This whole time I was holding back, staying far enough away to stop in time if I had to, but close enough to see it all.

I wish I would have gotten close enough to the cavalier to get his license number so I could've called the police on him. Just unreal what some assholes will do.

The Cavi was at fault for chillin in the blind spot just as much as the van was for havein his/her head up there ass and not gettin over. I hate it when people sit in my blind spot, I have had a few close calls with small cars sittin right next to me when I am pullin the big trailer

Back in the day when I had a 10 ton dump for my construction company, people would hang just off my left butt all the time. I really don't know why, but figured it was aerodynamics. They wouldn't pass, and they wouldn't get back a bit. So lane changes were always a challenge. I usually out weighed them, but I really hated forcing my way over. Even if I had had my signal on for the polite 10 clicks. (2-3 is normal in the car for me)

So one day, I need to get over to the left lane. Soccer mom is off my left butt and I am pulling a trailer with a backhoe on it. Turn signal on, she does not move. 1/2 mile till the lane ends. I slow down, she slows down! Damn. 1/4 mile of lane left. So I speed up. (slowly even with the pedal floored) SHE speeds up but stays just at the back wheels of the trailer. OK, I'm about to run out of road, so I start inching over....

She blows her horn and curses up a storm. Pulls up beside the cab. Ready to give me hell. I roll down my window and yell. "MOVE!!" As I am now out of road and I'm coming over, minivan or not. She realizes she is out gunned and finds the pedal on the right, speeds off, never to be seen again.

So goes the law of gross tonnage.

I deal with the worst drivers in country on a daily basis. It blows me away. People are 100% oblivious while driving in this state. You guys wouldn't believe me unless you've seen it. I could go on and on but that would only get me pissed off sitting in my chair. I don't even have to be driving to get mad, it's that bad.

Ya, I couldnt believe what I was seeing. Ive read stories online of people bragging about doing crap like that, all proud of themselves. Frankly, they're total a-holes.

try driving in jersey, that type of stuff is an everyday occurrence. hell, if the speed limit is 65 and you're in the left lane doing 78, people will still be right up your ass.

i've almost gotten into a few fights myself while driving. i had one guy tailgate me for no lie a mile. after waving him by 2-3 times he just wouldn't move. i sped up, he sped up. i finally got so pissed off that i brake checked him a little. he flips out pulls up along side me and tells me to pull over. F that, i called the cops on him and gave them the plate number as he sped off. 5-6 miles up the road there he was pulled over getting a ticket... i honked as i passed by:D

That's priceless :D

Tom, you need a camera phone to record that kind of crap... Calling the cops with a plate number would be useless as they can't do anything about it as they didn't witness it; with video, it might be a different story.
