So far I am liking 7 ALOT better than Vista. Runs more fluid than vista. Only downside is it doesn't run Virtual server or virtual PC 2007 yet. I need those fro school. And vista home premium won't run virtual server. So now I need to get a hard drive and put XP Pro on it. I know. Lots of other way to do this. But I want to keep it all separate.

I've played with Win7 a little bit. Seems much better then the limited exposure I have had to Vista.

I'm probably going to be getting another machine in the next couple of months and I don't think I'll have any choice but getting Win7 because some of the parts don't have drivers for XP.

I built a stripper clone to be used as a file server, and Win7 was $99, so I used it. I'm not loading any apps on it, so I can't tell how it works.

For the younguns out there, I use to run CAD/CAM apps under Win3.11 with 4 meg of RAM on board, and the performance was fairly good. The idea that a naked O/S would consume 280 meg boggles the mind.

IIRC I started to notice the XP interface was memory hungry... then I tinkered with Vista and with all that stupid pretty crap of an Operating Sytem I loved XP even more. That does seem like a ton of consumption Pat with a stripped down version

I remember even back in the windows 95 era, CPU's were so slow they didnt even need fans to cool them, just a passive heat sink...now the northbridge/southbridge need fans, graphics card needs a fan, etc........

I dont know didly about this stuff but my computer smart buddies like 7 alot so far!

I real would like to have them build me a nice home PC and put 7 on it. My lappy is all i have and its not the best. Need me a cheap netbook too. Likin the Asus ones. One big thing for me is, I run Realflight G4.5 on my lappy to practice my 3D-r/c flying and i have to have the frame-rate set low and minus some of the cool graphics so the flight isnt glitchy and is still sucks. Plus id like to upgrade to G5, so i need a badass PC setup for it and a wicked graphics card.:thumb:

Actually 8" floppies, every single day on 2 different machines with Z-80 processors that I overclocked 30% and intercepted the printer signal to collect data onto the network, since they pre-date ethernet. 30 years old and still running.

We have a new dell laptop running 7. So far all the software she had on XP laptop installed and works fine on the new one. The big pain in the @ss has been e-mail. 7 uses a different program than XP. She ended up e-mailing herself the ones she wanted to keep. There are other ways of doing it...this one was just the easiest for me...

Good Lord, I remember using TRS80s and Dos, and taking fortran and cobol classes in college (what a waste).


Im still trying to figure out what the big stink about Vista was. This laptop hasnt given me any issues at all...even EFILive runs fine.

I just finished setting up a new toshiba laptop for a buddy and its works pretty good.The only issue i had was installing his alltel air card which doesnt support win7 yet but i found a fix on the web even when pantech and alltel said is was impossible.

I have the AMD 64 mobile athlon, and this is by far the fastest processor I have ever had. I could never make an Intel/Pentium processors work worth a darn. I wish I could find a new dual core amd 64 laptop.

We have Windows 7 in the lab at school, runs much better than Vista. Much faster to log on/off and is runs much better more consistantly. I will be switching to it sometime early next year.
