Why are my EGT's high???

Did you do a turbo vane position relearn and setup/reconfigure the vane position/desired boost tables correctly when you went from a non-VVT back to a stock VVT?

I did a re-flash and installed my old tunes that Rob wrote me for a stock turbo, W/ 40 over injectors. I wonder if my DSP-5 Reflash could have been corrupted some how?:confused: I guess I could try re-flashing it again.. One of these days I really need to spend some time and figure out how to read, ajust, alter, etc, these tunes :banghead::eek:

Also I reflashed my stock tune in this afternoon without any other DSP-5/switch tunes. It runs cooler cruising but still creeps up past 1400 if I stay into it:confused: I swear I remember not being able to get my EGT's over 1200 with a stock tune, empty, before:confused::confused:

my guess was 800 degrees was before the 35's.

at 80 mph, I would be around 1K with my 35's. I noticed a difference going from 305's to the true 35's in egts.

No boot leaks and the stock charger is making around 32lbs of boost..

why would there be any oil in the exhaust manifolds/on the EGT probe..........???

Gravity:D did you see how much oil came from that exhaust!

Shut down the truck and oil would drop from exhaust housing of the turbo....no?

No need IMO if he is making 32 psi Vane posistion would not allow 32 psi if they didnt correspond to his tuning.

Atleast from what ive seen. Perhaps you know something else?

How would oil get in the exhaust? I don't know, but it seems to have gone through the system and right out the top of the stack.

Do you still smell burning oil in the exhaust? Could it be that when you get it up to op temp that the oil in the exhaust is burning and not going out until you stop the air flow. Diesel's are excess air engines and will pump enough air through the exhaust to support combustion post cylinder.

Wow makes me nervous bout my Turbo blowing up what Boost were you hitting? I hit 43lbs an oil could of drained down from the Turbo ped into up pipes an down from There but I doubt that has anything to do with his problem, an maybe its the built motor did you change pistons an everything probably has to do with that doubt theres anything really wrong just all the different parts run different temps thats my 2 cents

This is my opinion boys so don't burn me at the stake, but running 40 over stick with a stock tune could be it, have u run that tune with that turbo before??? usually fueling an timing makes for high egt's, Josh would be the man to compound on that. Just throwing in a couple of cents:) Good Luck

IDK maybe Im crazy:rolleyes::D The good news, according to BD they are going to warranty the turbo so Hopefully in the next couple weeks I will be able to throw the s300 back on. Then hopefully shortly after add a s475 to really keep those EGT's down:D Oh yeah BTW, I was only making 36-38 lbs of boost with the s300 on my race tune. According to BD there has not been to many failures with these units, so hopefully there right and this next one will last more then 3 weeks / 1100 miles:mad::rolleyes::)

BD has been telling that story about their failures for at least three years now. That is the same story I got back then when mine failed. I did have to pay about 350 for my replacement so I didn't get a full warranty and it took more than two months to come to that conclusion to boot. Good luck with it.

Well I think it's my turbo, I'll check it in the morning I'll let u know what I find, GM has had it for 2 days they're stumped, Oh well I'm going to Vegas again on Saturday another big pool tourney maybe I'll make enough to buy me a good turbo. I've got a sponsor so I get 50% of the winning, trips all paid no cost to me just a free shot to make some money, wish me luck

ya i'd say that to if i had more then a dozen faliures there turbo is good but im hearing alot of faliuers on them 2 locally though one drove like a jackass on his for bout 3000 miles straight like all out total boosted luanches :rofl: but he calmed down after it took a crap on him
