I did a house cleanout last year, wife kicked the husband out then shortly after walked away from the house. I forgot I had a LARGE box of baseball cards from the place.

I dont know anything about baseball cards, I dont even watch sports...

Anyone know how to tell if they are worth anything???

Try to find a Beckett card magazine for card values. Look for a card dealer in your area, too.

A friend of mine has a bunch of cards he wants to get rid of also and swears they are worth tons. Is there much of a market for them anymore?

You can also use the tried and true method of eBay to see what people are asking for them. Topps brand are your basic baseball cards. There are other brands that are worth more because they don't produce as many as Topps.

My plan is to split my collection between my two sons and let them decide what they want to do with it.

Good luck!

I found my old card collection as well. I have close to 5k (I would guess....possibly more) cards....I have EVERY Shaq rookie card from every big brand.....I was going through some the other day and couldnt believe some of the cards I have... over 100 Jordan cards in MINT condition all in hard plastic cases. I have some OLD football and baseball cards that used to be my fathers as well. Amazes me what I spent my money on as a youth. I havnt even seen let alone touch these cards in about 10+ years. They have been in two big plastic tubs collecting dust. I dont know what to do with them either....

I did the same deal as you about ten years ago. A guy went to jail for a long time, and the land lord wanted the house cleaned out. There was a milk crate with a bunch of old comics. The most worthy was a Dare Devil #1. At the time it was worth $2,200. There were a few others that were $80-500. You can get a Beckett from most comic book stores for the card value's, good luck!
