Who do you guys recommend for EFI Live for the LBZ

Ok fella's getting ready to get the truck tuned . It's a 2004 CCLB 4x4 LB7. Only current thing that's not stock is the 4" stainless Banks exhaust . It's had a Banks 6 gun but I removed it since it was junk.

Wondering who has best tunes that make the most power and least smoke.

I'll be adding a down pipe, lift pump, and intake as well in the near future .

Efi Live and DSP5 switch so looking for 5 good tunes in let's say 50hp increments


The ones I've heard of are :

Kory Willis
Idaho Rob
Danville


Is there anyone else to consider and if so who? Also out of these three who do you guys personally recommend and why?

I'm sure they all do great work , just curious is anything in particular makes one of them the better choice ?

Nobody wants to see a pissing match so it's fair to say all 3 are excellent tuners and you can't go wrong with any of them. Do a little bit of reading in the efi section you will be able to narrow it down yourself.

Just to give another option there is Tony at ridge runner diesel performance. Take your pick all are better than banks. :thumb:

I'll give a nod to Tony at ridgerunner since he's also a site vendor I believe, and I've yet to hear any complaints about his tuning. And is this an lbz or lb7? You have lbz in the title, and lb7 in your post. I only ask because a 5 speed trans will not hold as much power as a 6 speed in stock form, so stay realistic with your goals unless you want to add built trans to your list in the NEAR future.

no such thing when you want the absolute most from the truck. it will be smokey till you upgrade turbo/s

Depending on how much you want out of the truck, it might be even more smokey once you do upgrade the turbo.

Small turbo = clean spool, smokey top end (or limited power)
Big turbo = dirty spool (and/or massive lag), clean top end

You want smoke free power, you need twins and/or a DPF.

But you are right, compounds is the correct term, and I should be accurate, especially when working with a newbie who might not know what I meant.

Lol sorry I missed the twins part... I have always called them twins but so many have trips now I have kinda switched to compounds. But I have gotten into a pissing match or two over me using the twins term instead of compound, that guy sure hated the term twins:rofl:

I have many lb7 with marks tuning, it's as good as his vvt truck tuning.

Mark, Tony, or Rob get my vote. Kory does well but he has to much going on in my opinion..

For an LBZ, Id lean toward Rob, for an LB7, Tony......but any of the 7 businesses in our vendor section that do tuning would be a good choice.

From the sounds of your post, it sounds like you have upgrades planned for down the road. I would go with a tuner who is flexxible and reasoneable with retunes down the road. I do mot reccomend a built trans tune for a stock trans as the temptation is TOUGH to resist turning the knob up, there goes your box, and now you're forced to build your trans instead of doing it over time. So I would reccomend tuning for what you have, then upgrade as you add on stuff down the road. And I believe Tony at ridgerunner is about as reasoneable as any for doing this.

I've had Kory and mark. Mark gets my vote hands down. Due to customer service. You can actually talk to mark on the phone. I got tires of emailing Kory.

I ran duramaxtuner on my old lb7 an really liked it. An I have ran rob (ATP) tunes on my old lbz. Both great tuners.

You won't be sorry with any of the recommended tuners mentioned. All are fantastic

Korys tuning and custom tuning went down hill big time. He is to big to care. Charges for tune updates.
I myself prefer Tony. He tuned both of my lbzs. Easy to get ahold of. Does not mind going over data logs. Also free lifetime updates. He was one of the orginal bata testers for efi.
