Which trans fluid ?

Hey everyone, I just picked up an 03 with the 8.1 and Allison. I have no idea what fluid is in the trans now, and the seller had no idea since he was the 2nd owner. The fluid looks great, but there will likely come the time to change it out. So….which fluid should I plan to use. Thanks.

Castrol TranSynd is what I've always been told was the best. But really any good DEXRON-III should work fine

In a stock rig, trans-syn seems the best. In a built trans, reg ol dex3 is better. Better to have the fluid take the beating than the clutches

Factory fill was likely Dex3 in that unit.
