I lived in Tyler for awhile. There is a dragstrip in Rusk, about 40 miles south of Tyler on Hwy 69. Lived there to. Don't know if it's 1/4 or 1/8th though. Tyler would be a good place to live. Schools are pretty good. And I know it fairly well. And it is only about 1 1/2 hour drive to Dallas. Maybe a little less. Canton seems like a nice place to be too. How bout that first monday. LOTS of people show up for that. And you can get some good deals on stuff there.

Lived in Midland, which is a decent city for West Texas. Its a nice town(400k?), but I always was glad to drive to San Angelo to the lakes. Lived down South in Luling, Gonzales, and the country was pretty around there, but the economy wasnt there. Then been around north Austin, round rock area and that place is in the hills, green, just darn pretty.
Now live north of Fort Worth. South of F dub is low on the economy side, north is nice, but expensive. Dallas is just a place to say hell no, never goin back. All the towns north of dfw like Flower Mound, Southlake, Keller, Colleyville are really nice, but its city life. Could live in the smaller towns but seconds from anything, Argyle, Haslet, Justin, Double Oak...
Prob best times I had were in San Angelo, but thats probably like everyone else who thinks there childhood days were the best ofcourse. Id say San Angelo for the people/community. Id say Round Rock for the scenery/community, then FW for work/community.

money is a big part of it...
San Antonio begins to piss me off after a while. Austin is too Liberal for me. Houston, well, i won't get into that, just not my cup of tea. DFW depends on what area, but there are some good choices around there.

San Angelo is an ok town. not my favorite but ok. i like trees and lakes and all of my family lives anywhere from San Antonio to College Station.

New Braunfels is beautiful, Canyon Lake and the 2 rivers there are a lot of fun. Burnet is a nice, small community with Lake Buchannan. the entire section on the outside of I35 to the south and east is pretty.

if you want to be close to only 1 city (san antonio) west and northwest is the only place i would look.

if you want more dry climate, west texas is pretty spread out. midland/odessa is pretty much the furthest West I would go.

i've never lived in the coastal areas, but i know there are some real nice places there too. try not to get too close to the Rio Grande...border towns lately have been a little more dangerous. (no offense to anyone :hug:).


....oh and nothing is quite like the Texas hill country...from Hondo to Junction to Brady to Burnet and all inside of I 35.

My parents live in Spring Branch. Its about 30-40 miles out of San Antonio. 10 mins from Canyon lake, 20 mins from New Braunfels and the country is kinda the best of both worlds-hills rolling and some dry areas too. close to Austin, San Antonio but not in the "Big" city.

i've never been to Stephenville...i have some friends up there though.
however, i did live just outside of New Braunfels near Gruene about 1 mile form the Guadalupe River for 12 years!
