Thanks for the replies guys! Its greatly appreciated!

So what are the pros and cons between running the 45 over vs the 60 overs other than for obvious reasons..

Tuning has come so far that I'm not sure there are really any drawbacks to the 60 overs. They will run clean and give you a little bit more room to grow if you choose to later on.

You'll love the 68r. Not sure what converter you have but it needs to be appropriate for a fast spooling VVT. A good trans tune helps a lot as well.

Awesome thats what i like to here!

Is the 68stg2r from Danville going to be the better option for keeping this thing alive?

Or is there something else out there that will work better?

I am not opposed to a fixed vane turbo but i would like to stay with the VVT if at all possible.

I wish he would have done turbo swap without the 40's.... would be interesting to see difference

That is what my truck will be everything he has done minus the injectors is done to mine. Hoping to have all the pieces rounded up for the 369 in a few weeks or so.

exactly why i went well over the 60% overs i wanted to begin with

Currently I am running the precision converter with their factory stall, I believe it is around 18-1900?

truck i did has the ML precision converter in it (stall is closer to 2200-2300rpm), 60 overs, 68stg2r, dual fuelers and tuned in well. he drives it at 7k elevation and all there is is a little puff of smoke on take off to get the turbo to light off. we made it smokeless initially but i wanted better spool up than we were getting and the owner is not afraid of smoke lol. so i would say it will work well. it doesnt couple worth a damn in comparison to converters out there today if your over 500hp.

Yeah, I'm thinking a converter swap is in order here. It won't be fun blowing thru the tc all the time.

When you say blowing through the tc are you referring to it slipping? Or are you referring to it not being able to couple?

hes stating what i mean as far as bad coupling. you will know what i mean when you load the hot tune and hammer on it when the converter is unlocked from a roll. it will rev and get going but when lock up hits, its like you gain 100hp. a good coupling converter will get that "missing 100hp" to the ground and you will only feel a small gain in the truck pulling when lock up occurs. the higher the HP, the harder it is to achieve optimum coupling as there is lots of other things to consider.

So the truck is back together and running. I went with 45% over injectors 10mm pump and Danville's 3794 stage 2. The heads were lightly ported with new springs 30lbs heavier on the seat and 60lbs open IIRC. Also arp head studs and pro fab manifolds were added. The bottom end is still stock... Needless to say I am a little paranoid on it staying together. I had the truck re-tuned by duramax tuner and they say it should be right around the 700hp mark on tune 5.

How should I be driving this thing to be mindful of the stock internals? I know that I am running on the ragged edge but what can I do to prevent the worst?

Dont do a lot of highway pulls or extened WOT runs. Try to avoid rolling burnouts and hard kickdowns too. Basically dont have any fun with it and it shoild be okay. :D

Funny, though...there havent been any new stock bottom/stock turbo setups that have bested that 5 year old 12.14. Just sayin' ;)
Cause there's way more turbo options than we had back then, who wants to stay stock now...
It was fun to drive up the track swap wheels, unbolt some stuff & run consistent 12.3s & some 12.2s
Throw your stuff back on & drive home
