I just went through this....I couldn't justify spending what people wanted on them. Considering I can get an mdi from the dealer I used to work at for $1200. People still want 2kish for used tech 2s. I just bought a 6mo old snap on solus ultra pro and does everything the tech2 does. The fast learns are the same, they show the same data etc. the tech2 won't work on trucks after 2013.

I've heard of quite a few people using the Chinese knockoff.. Supposed to work great just a little slower

From what I understand they are plenty up to date as it sits, but like Logan said they wont work on 13+ so I would consider that. For the price its good to just have one regardless. Im going to order one for the hell of it .

What all can you do with one of these beside data stuff? Can I change stuff in the bcm? Do you have to have other modules to make it do neat stuff? I have zero experience with one

Only question is, what do you do for TIS2000 software and access keys if you buy the Chinese version? GM wants $55/2 day access for TIS2WEB (or $1000/yr).

That sicotool site sells a TIS disc and usb drive for $30 (not sure how legit that one it...pic is of a generic CD for goshsakes), but if you have a 2008+ newer vehicle, it wouldnt work anyways.

Since Roni now has a 2012 Traverse, Im kinda screwed there. It would still work on my car, trucks and the kids cars, though.

Or if you know someone with gmglobalconnect login ID your good.

Yes Kyle it will access the bcm and driver door/seat module/ abs/ etc on all 01-13 duramax a. 2014+ requires use of an mdi

Maybe I should start charging for my gm login credentials lol

And Tom for the traverse you will need the mdi.

The clones work fine with TIS2web as far as I know, provided you don't update them. I have no idea how, but somehow, updating a clone can/will fry it. It doesn't do anything to the card, it actually kills something in the tech2. A friend of mine worked at a shop that acquired a clone, and when the updated it, it got fired. They got it replsced, then tried to update the replacement and it got fried too. Took the card out of the fried tech2 and put it in mine (genuine) and it worked fine.

To each their own, but personally, I would avoid the clones like the plague. I bought my CANDi module through a local dealership to make sure I wouldn't get a clone.

Thanks for the info, Logan. Very much appreciated.

Cougs, I'd love to buy actual GM equipment (as many of us would), but the price! I mean, c'mon......

There is an exceptionally long thread on the Saab forum about this very topic:

http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=260738

Then they have another thread concerning TIS2000:

http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=309402

Those guys are techie crazies that would make Ben blush. :hehe:

Oh, I also found the sico.com TIS disc on Amazon for less $$ and free shipping:

Basically if you have access to a Gm login, you sign on, click onto tis2web, and then get the 2nd page. Software Download will end your chinese tech2, but using SPS (service programming system), if you have an mdi it will pick it up off of wifi. otherwise the tech 2 had to be plugged into the computer and it will show it.
