What do you mean "tie up"? Are you saying hard shifts in an Allison are not good and not supposed to happen? I apologize for my ignorance.

Yes. Allisons need a certain length of time to shift because they must go into neutral every time when that time is cut short you could very well be in two gears at the same time constituting a tie up

A tie means two gears at once. Hard shifts hurt hard parts and are not supposed to happen.

What Evan said. A hard shift actually locks the rear wheels for a split second. This will slow you down more than defuel. This happens more on a 3/4 shift than any other shift. This is where you twist the splines on the P1 planet and C2 hub. Most tuners have no idea how the Allison works and don't give a shit. If they can make it shift like a turbo 400 with a nasty shift kit; most young dumbshits will buy it and brag about it.
The best shift in the world is the one you DIDN"T feel, but it lit up the tires when it happened. Ya Baby.:thumb::D

I've had to run a fast non defuel shift before to keep from falling off the charger. I'm sure it can't be good at all, but it's the only way I could make work.

I ran no defuel for a long time my splines on 250k old allison looked perfect tuning plays large rolls in its life. Now when I really crank the power past 700 I'll see how they do :thumb: I also run defuel again now

I doubt you will have the same results if you turn the power way up. The first time c2 and c3 decide to not play nice together your done.

The first set of tunes I bought a few years ago from a bigger named tuner included a TCM tune that, upon further research, had all defuel disabled and the shift timing and torque reduction values greatly altered. The ECM tune had a very modified TLIQ table. Needless to say my stock trans didn't last too long running like that.

Does an ATS trans tc lock up in first in tow/hual and in race mode on the copilot? Normally mine will tc lock 2-5 in tow/haul, but I was watching my CTS and it said it was locking 1-5.....
