Sounds like the valve that keeps pressure up when the converter locks. Stock it drops from something like 180 with the converter unlocked to something like 100 with it locked. Those numbers are probably wrong, but you get the idea. If that's the valve I'm thinking of it prevents the drop at lockup.

It's the converter flow valve. Pressure drops 100 psi ( from 245 to 145 ). This valve requires trans and pump disassembly to install. You only need this valve if you are racing.

How does it shift when installed? Is it a little rougher when it shifts?

tha valve is the one that comes with the suncoast four and in my experience it is a must without it , with any kind of high horsepower you will smoke the trans. i had my whole kit in minus that valve and smoked the tranny in a week. that valve is important it keeps the pressure up. you have to pull the tranny to install but it is easy i did mine myself the instructions were pretty thorough
