What's the Difference between Wastegate and BOV

Just like the title says Tial has both on their website, don't they both relieve pressure at a set psi?

Yes, but they operate differently and are made of different materials for the application.

Wastegate is for the hot side. (prevents over speeding the turbo)

BOV is for the cold side. (prevents turbo bark and bent throttle blades in gassers)

BOVs arent commonly used in most diesel applications as we do not have a throttle body. Well I take that back before 07 we didnt have throttle bodies.

On a gasser when the blade closes the turbo has nowhere to push the air so it would bark, the BOV relieves the pressure to prevent the barking and makes a hiss that many ricers think is really cool.

all cali emission dmax have "air diverter" like a throttle body but it is not. it close off the fresh air side so the engine can suck in the EGR from the exhuast.
