I have narrowed my search down to basically two cars,
A chevy Aveo or a Toyota Yaris.
Its a toss up right now....I want to drive the car for about 200,000 miles. I figure ill have that on it in about 9 years. What are your guys and gals opinions and if you have anyother advise please feel free to say. Thanks Eric

Eric, I hava a 96 Honda Accord that I bought for 3500 and it runs like a top. It would be hard for me not to recommend a Honda for a DD. You can find a used one pretty cheap and they run forever. Just my opinion, unless your set on a new ride.

Of those two I would go for the Yaris.
Sadly I am not fond of small GM cars.
HHR Panels are pretty darn cool though.

I would rather have a Honda Fit if it where me. My mom has been driving one for over a year now. Very roomy, easy to load stuff in. Gets 34 mpg in town. Actually runs suprisingly well.

I looked at Hondas about a hour ago...the Civic with same options as Chevy, Toyota was 17,760$ The Chevy about 14,100$ and the Toyota was 14,800$.....Used is not a option....Sorry i got to have somthing thats going to last a Long time and be trust worthy. I want a warranty too :D I would love to own a brand new Honda but there too damned over priced IMHO....Im not going to pay 3,000$ more just becuase its a honda....My family has owned many toyotas with great luck so im kinda leanin that way. I would like to stay american but the sticker says that the Aveo is 88% Korean :(

I've got one as a delivery car. Yep, it's a re-badged Daewoo Lanos.
It likes new spark plugs every 40K or so, but other than that, it's been a trouble free little buggy.

The Fit is a good deal cheaper then the Civic. A base model which has alot of stuff is MSRP just under 14K. The base model Fit is how my mom rolls.

Whats wrong with the Duramax for a dailey driver , and I dont want to hear about high fuel, you can buy a lot of fuel for the cost of another car, insurance, maintenance and gas ;)

Yup, Chevy dealer tech.

Check out the warranties also. I know any GM 2007 and newer has a 5/100k powertrain warranty, not sure on the Toyota/Honda, probably the same though, seems pretty standard these days.

So you say this is a "work car"??? What kind of "work" are you gonna be doing out of it? Must be sales or something? Or is it just a commuter to and from the work place???

While it may be a hit up front on fuel cost vs. owning and operating the new car... if he does keep it to 200K miles over 9-10 years, then he will have plenty of time to see the benefits of the reduced operating cost versus his 02 Dmax and I think that's the goal here... long term savings for driving expenses.

You must be looking at the duded out Aveo, I see one for 10k.

EPA site says the Yaris gets better mileage by about 2.

I'd say of the 2, Toyota.

VW TDI FTW! they a bit more expensive than 14k though.

Eric, you get the Toyota and I'll get the Chevy, then we can take them to track night at Trails. :D

I was about to open up a thread about that. How high would diesel have to get to warrant purchasing another (better mpg) car? I've only now started considering it. I drive 40 miles round trip every day. That cost me about $10 in just fuel. Would it be worth it to buy, insure, and maintain a good mpg beater to be my daily driver?

I would get the Aveo BTW.

Larry i hope your not serious:eek:, No offense but I think I must push the limits of my truck just alittle more than you do. I really dont trust my truck to attend 40+ truck pulls a year. Drag race about 50 1/4 mile passes a year. And then turn around and make a trip to work thats 70 miles a day....I just dont think that would be very wise of me. I usually drive the truck to every drag race and truck pull. The next big reason is SALT..Its a vehicle killer up here. I refuse to drive my truck in the salt. I hate rust!!!

Mitch I am a Mechanic at the Columbus Airport. The car is a commuter to and from work place. The car i have now i drive Everywhere. I hardly ever drive the truck unless im going to a event. The car i got now has 183K on it so i believe i can make a new one last 200K The price to fill my truck up is about 115$. My car is about 35 bucks a week....I will defenately save some dough in the long run!
