What to do to New Engine

I guess it's not a new engine, but it seems like one to me. I am in the process of pulling my LB7 out of my '03 and will be putting an '05 LLY with low miles in. While I have the LLY on the trailer I'd like to do any mods I can since it us easier to access. After buying the engine, I don't have a large budget but could spend around $1000 or so. So far I've thought of the basics such as EGR Blocker, PCV re-route, and possibly a lift pump. Are there other things out there that I should do to help with towing as well as fuel economy. I'm not building the transmission, so I don't want to go overboard on power. I have also thought about having someone tune it with EFI, or is there a better option out there?

Also, the LLY has everything still attached to it including fan, alternator, turbo, transmission, front differential, etc... Should I be able to install the complete setup or will I need to transfer parts from my LB7 to the LLY?

head studs is a good suggestion i would do an aftermarket down pipe now while the engine is out getting in later would be harder for sure but this is only if you planed on doing 1 in the future.everything else should be pretty accesable while the motor is in.I asume you are changing the wiring harness?not sure if the cluster will plug rite in or noti thing everything else should fit up mechanicly but you will need the motor wiring harness and possibly more

Couple of questions and excuse my ignorance...what are the positives of installing head studs, and what are the pros of an aftermarket down pipe? I know I have a 4" exhaust from Turbo back, so is the down pipe what goes in before the turbo? Sorry if these are stupid questions, but I'm just learning about all the working of the Duramax.

The downpipe is a good idea, but i would also completely delete the EGR assembly while you have access to it. Get the intake tube from RDL or all season and find an LB7 up-pipe or something. Why put a blocker plate in that possibly leak, etc when you have the engine right in front of you to work on? Yank that junk off!!:thumb:

the down pipe is from the back of the turbo,down to your turbo back exhaust :rofl:also i have a reg lb7 passenger side uppipe for sale it will eliminate the egr uppipe on your motor as 04jimc suggested
