So I have a 2007 Kodiak that broke a piston @ 229k. Got a new used motor from a 2006 Kodiak 5500. So the engine is whole and has 73,000 miles. I use the the Kodiak to tow a 10-12k enclosed trailer. My questions are what should i do while i have the motor on the engine stand? I see all kinds of up pipes and oil pans, injector mods. Really its running a mild EFI Live tune. The one thing I have planned for the truck is a external oil cooler from experiance oil temps seem to run away and take time cooling down resulting in low oil pressure on highway runs. This was all on my old motor but we saw the same thing on another Kodiak I borrowed to pull my trailer.

Stud it with a fresh set of head gaskets. Put an oil cooler on it and roll on. Simple is better

Yea I should have mentioned the Lml head bolts.. Much cheaper and I'm about to see how they hold up

I've yet to lift a set with what I do. Iirc 36 bolts for less than $200.00
Will need copper washers and o rings for injectors after you pull them

That's probably the cheapest you're going to find for copper washer and boring.. and yes that's what I use as well

Corbin you get one of these yet?

Not to disagree with you, but I got this set for 8ish dollars roughly and used it this past weekend again no issues GS33578

My thought was doing each stud one at a time and not disturbing the current head gasket. I am new to Diesels and if its not much more work to do new head gaskets then I guess i could go that route. With all the torque sequences I had planned on having a shop do the work that was familiar with it. But sounds like with the LML head bolts they could be a simpler application.

Thanks for suggesting the seals and o rings for the injectors. Do the Up pipes and headers really help with EGT's?

Mishimoto makes a nice one.. any for a SBC/BBC (non vortec/LSx) will work. Runs same filter nipple and gasket.
