That's why I didn't like spacers well 2" anyway.

I agree with the rubbing unless your at GVWR and it's a 110 outside and the asphalt is a ka-xillion degrees you've been driving for 10 hours you hit the biggest bump in the road you've ever seen and the sidewalls bulge ,ya maybe ! :D

welcome to az lol. when i worked at discount tire, we had a dually come in with oversized tires that were touching. i dont know how long they had been on there but as i and the guy i was working with were checking the air pressure and airing them back up to the customers suggestion of 80psi (max pressure of the tire as well) for a load he was getting ready to haul, the outer dual blew on the inside sidewall, sending little metal shards and rubber at my co-worker has he was under the truck checking the spare tire air pressure. luckily he had his arms in front of his face as he was reaching up to add air so most of steel stuck in his arms. you could see the sidewalls were quite worn from the touching they had. from then on, our store would not touch a truck with inner walls touching. Hell i still wont touch them, 80psi blowing out of a tire with you right in front of it will make you poo a little :D

im sure guys have no issues but after my experience, i wont risk it for me or my buddies that have me work on their trucks

these tires have been on there a while, and its a flat bed so i haul a lot of wood and scrap with it so it has a lot of weight in the bed quite frequently. they have worn enough on the inside walls that the letters are all rubbed off.

It's not unheard of for tires to blow up while airing them up. That's why all the shops around here air up even new tires in cages. I'm not saying it wasn't due to rubbing just it's got to be very very rare. I looked today and 3 of our duallies are lightly rubbing with no load. One of them is due for new tires at 80k and the sidewalls looked ok. In the dark mind you. I know more then a few people who's sidewalls look pretty rough just from rubbing crubs
Etc.

I would defiantly put some more air in them though and see where that gets you.

Hey guys, I just went from the stock size tire 215's to 235's on my 07.5 dually. The rear tires, which are mounted on the stock steel rims, are a little too close for my liking. I got two 1/2 inch spacers to put between the rims, however I felt like I didn't have enough lug stud to trust it. What else do I need to do or is it better to do something else. I do a lot of hauling.

I run 235/85/16 on my drw but have to use a spacer between duals to keep them from rubbing. I use a 1/2" spacer but could prob get away with a 1/4 or 3/16

How did you deal with the length of stud bolt after putting on the spacer? Thanks!

I used bolt on spacers. I put the inside tire on then bolted the the spacer on with blue Loctite. then bolted the outside wheel to the spacer. I did the 1/2" spacer at first for a while but didn't like it at all and switched to 1 1/2" spacers. I also have 235's on mine. if you pm me your number I can take a pic of mine and send it to you so you can get a better look at it.
