While it may not be the cream of the crop, I`ve had good luck with a Reese Heavy duty digital. You can set the power level for different trailers and the gain seperately. I`ve used it for my 5th wheel weighing in around 8500 and my 30 ft gooseneck hauling up to 20K and it has been flawless.

I use one of these as well. I just connected it to the factory trailer brake adapter that came with my truck and I am on year number 4 with it - no problems yet.

In the case of these things, I think the less electronics the better but that's just me.

Kat, I was chatting with TrailerProPops at a Dyno day last summer about controllers. While the Prodigy seems to be the forum consensus for controllers (well except for the Brakesmart, but that is an entirely different zip code ) they seem to prefer something else. Can't remember what unit it was, maybe you should PM him and see - it is their business after all...:)

2x I have a Prodigy from them. But I do remeber Pat saying that they had something else on there dually that they really liked. I do remember him saying that it had a pressure sensor that tapped into the brake line.

I like the Tekonsha Voyager, I'm sure that the P3 is cooler to look at but I've been using this brake controller since I could drive and still hasn't let me down.

Just over $100 on eBay. Easy to wire in - plug and play on our trucks with the appropriate harness.

I got this one for $100 shipped. Pat had it installed quickly and it works great. Actually now he wants one

Good buy Kat. I've had my P3 for a bit now and have had no issues with it. Its nice to be able to monitor the voltage and current. Esp if you are picking up a trailer that's not yours or if you are having braking issues with one.
