I'm sitting around 600hp and I'm sure my rods are feeling a little shorter now than they were in the past.

If I added only a set of rods (Crower, Carrillo, Howards, etc), what is next on the list to fail?

I shift at 3600rpm.

i would say lifting the heads due to the standard compression of the pistons. unless u already have studs n gaskets.

Steve don't be scared... detorque it man why won't you listen to me ?

Yes, high RPM keeps stock rods alive longer, but puts the valvetrain, balancer, water pump, and other components through hell.

I shift at 3300, and make peak power at 2900.
