What is a Duraflite tranny? I've heard of them going in some high hp trucks, but a quick Google search didn't tell me much.

Thanks

Thanks everybody. The name makes sense now.

What's the main reason? Easier to build to hold lots of power?

Guys are going with the duraflite because of the bad tie ups in high HP dmax's. Buck went with one long ago when there were no fixes for the alli at the time but from what I understand Mike L. and Suncoast have come up with a fix for this so I personally dont see the reason for the duraflite anymore and plus have yall ever ridden in a built dodge tranny... talk about snapping your neck on every shift:rofl:

Yep, Dodge trans behind the DMAX.

Just as pricey to build for a MAX effort rig.... once you have it i understand they are cheaper to fix. My Bro thinks it looks like an electronic 727, 727's are run of the mill as far as parts go. ALLY shafts and hard parts aren't sitting around on shelves and if they are...$$$$.

I have one sitting on the floor at the shop, I wanna give it a try next year.

The Doubt the Ally will ever shift as fast/consistantly and have the rotating mass of the 47. The shifting in the Ally just has so much going on.

But ughhh....a dodge trans:( I'de rather try a turbo 400 with a gear vendors:p or a lenco with a bruno:baby:

X2,Lenco, and you can throw the whole farm at that setup and ita take it! How cool would it be to have all the levers in there! Instant WOT gear changes, with no defuel! We have a nice 3spd Lenco in the shop tempting me! Just gotta bolt up a couple more gear modules and add a Bruno drive:rofl:
But i'd need the "street" lenco:eek: and this one aint and its air shift currently.

I'de put a small air compressor on the truck and run an air shifter...maybe use the tap shift buttons to contole it:cool:

Well the internals are the full race sets, need the street version of it, the air shift valves are actually pretty cool exept theyed be a pain on downshifts to remember! This Lenco has no neutral, it is in 1st or reverse at all times unless we cut the reverse gear (basically leaves an open gap for a "neutral" position) but it weakens reverse. There is no park, no pawl in there. The gear sets in this one are the same ratio. There is 2 air switches and you smack them with you palm they click-in and send CO2 to a shifter pod on the trans to shift instantly, doesnt matter which one you hit, just watch shift light and smack a button! And you leave the buttons in as you shift. To take it out of gears you pull the knobs back out and its cool cause they purge off the Co2 in the pods! Fun but not street material, rather have a V-gate shifter like a Long! Think NHRA pro-stock shifters. A Liberty or G-Force type of trans like banks S-10 would be cool but also not streetable, and high maintnance. Pattersons PS/truck used a liberty and gear sets had to be changed every 3-4 passes cause they knock the tips of the gear teeth off often.

You will need a sugar daddy with this trans.

I got one... YOU! :D Whadya think? I'm gonna build it? I can build ANYTHING out of sticks and stones.... but not a trans.

You and Pat aren't giving up on the ALLY, I totally respect that. I have a desire to get ahead of the curve, not follow the curve.

We talked about this almost 6 months ago when i brought the 4 in for update and refresh memmer? My part is to get the weight off...:D

Torqueflite A-727 = Best 3 speed automatic evar!

Fact.

Wrong.
Best 3 speed ever was and is the TH400.
727 takes off on the forward clutch and the intermediate band takes over for 2nd gear, which means it has to stop a drum from turning. When that band releases, that release fluid IS the apply fluid for the direct clutch ( 3rf gear ) and there is always a slight tie up during that transition.
TH400 takes off on the forward clutch, then the intermediate clutch comes on and stays on through 3rd gear when the shift occurs. There is no timing for the release of second gear to cause a tie up.
Back in the old days when we were building the 727, C6, and 400; The 727 and C6 were good for 10 passes down the 1/4 mile because of their 2nd gear bands and timing while the TH400 was good for 30 to 50 passes.
