I am looking to buy this from my shop soon.

They said make an offer on it as it has been sitting in the shop for 1.5 years unused. It is an older DeVilbiss Compressor. It ran real good at the old shop and was maintained quite well. But now has sat for 1.5 years. It is three-phase so I have to get a phase converter or changing out the motor.

I would get a large 240v motor single phase

I agree entirely. I just picked up a 3 phase motor and am in the process of swapping on a single phase motor in its place (just too lazy to bolt it on...).

It's probably worth checking with Surplus Center. They typically have reasonable prices and stock some large compressor motors.

also grainger has alot of motors, I buy replacement ones from them all the time for work. But if you do have 3 phase its the way to go as it draws the least aount of amperage between the two.

Reciprocating compressors are low tech compared to screw or vane compressors so they are less valuable but they will make higher pressures than the latter types mentioned. Perhaps you could find some comparison via ebay. Surplus center has very affordable new motors in many varieties. My guess would be 200 to 400 bucks for a good used unit.

To get a good deal on it more like 200,the new motor is going to be a little pricey and you can buy a used upright 2 stage60 gallon for 4 to 5 and they take up less room.If you didnt get it for 200 i my self would pass.

It is 80gal built in 78. This will be used in a home shop. It may run a few times a day on the weekends and only a few times in a week.

I am thinking $300.00 as I need to spend 200+ on a motor.

Not a problem it probably is worth 300 those old cast iron cylinders are almost impossible to hurt, hopefully the tank was drained on a regular basis so its not rotting from the inside out. Those old compressors are tough as nails.

I used to drain it at the old shop here and there it never looked bad hell it looked better than the one I have now.

When we moved to this shop I pulled the drain on it so it does not hold water in it it is dry and not bad looking in side.

I don't even have a place to put it yet.

Waiting to see if my offer is accepted on a new house with a 40'x48'x16' shop
