What do you think caused this hole in my head?

I have a hunch it was the over the top Canaaydiaan accent of the announcer, sorry to see the damage to your head though, how was the piston?

Could injector spray be hitting the back side of the valve while it was open causing it to deflect back up to the head? I would think things would have to be way out of wack for this to happen, but for the valve stem and head to be burned something was seriously wrong?

small crack that allowed enough compression to still light off the cylinder but let the flame up there? Total random guess

That's what I'm thinking. Just wanting to know what I should be looking for before I put it back together. Don't want to screw another head or something worse.

I dont want to run you down the wrong road making assumptions and hopefully someone way smarter than me will chime in but If the injector fired while the valve was open that far the piston would be down in the bore a ways I think.

Looked like she was gonna giv'r good till she broke! What rpm's were you plowin at?
Looks like an exhaust valve stuck open a smidge or was sticky maybe?

Looks like a defect in the casting. The heat just helped it come apart. Are these heads stock or ported?

After looking at the pics and re-reading the thread I retract my earlier guess.
This seems more likely as a stuck valve would have burned up the exhaust chamber not where it made the hole in the head!

I never would have thought of that but since you guys agree I'm leaning towards this reason. The heads were mildly ported. She was running around 46-4800 rpm there. I'm putting a stock head back on with Socal springs and retainers, hoping it doesn't really matter that the flow might be a little less on the stock head. Thanks for the help guys.
