I recently had a PPE Stage V kit installed and I noticed the converter is painted black on the cover and it looks unpainted on the other side. All of the PPE Stage V kits I've seen come with the white converter.

The converter I have looks exactly like this one:

From this post, it seems like I have a Merchant Automotive version:

From this post, it seems like I have a Goerend ML converter:

Mine was drop shipped directly from PPE.

What converter do I have?

Thanks guys.

It's an MLG (Black and natural). The precision ML (PPE's version is white) is considered an upgrade now and you have to specifically ask for it when you place the order. It's the same for the yellow suncoast as well...

Personally, I like the MLG better than the precision ML on the VGT turbo and smaller fixed singled trucks...

can u tell us anything more about it mike? im guessing its looser than ML-G but tighter than ML-K bc u said mini K.

BTW I have the ML-G and love it. nice and tight for a cruising as a DD but loosens up abit when u need it like when u put ur foot into it. spools stock modded turbo awesome. when u rip on it from dead stop, i love when it locks in second and barks the tires even a pretty low tune prolly break em loose on higher tuned truck.

I wouldn't mind finding a little more info out on the R also.

When my MLG would lock it would always bark the tires. Pretty sweet when it would bark the tires doing 60 in a crew cab.

You are correct.
We built the R for the LML to help it get out of the hole better. It has a billet stator. Some how it never went into my truck because I forgot about it. I recently used it on a big dually that tows heavy loads and was very surprised how good the R is.
It will stall 2200 and couple hard after launch. The R will be great for big tires or bigger single turbo. Tows fantastic and runs cool. It will perform great at the track also. Now I have to get it into my truck and compare it to the SC 1058 which I'm running now. The 1058 is a little too loose after Rob tuned it.

awesome info and keep up the great work mike L, thanks. finally something good to complete with 1058. that was the other converter i was choosing between but thought it was too loose for my needs so I went with MLG.

JoshH recently built the trans in our project reg cab LBZ using the R converter that Mike is talking about. The LBZ is still stock turbo/fuel but driving it you instantly fall in love with the converter!!!

It stalls up effortlessly to 2000rpm which made for a smooth, controlled, low boost launch cutting 1.7 60's on some worn out, bald spare tires. As soon as you hit the throttle it couples quick and just throws you back!! love it!!

When it goes to lockup, it's buttery smooth. Much smoother than my old precision ML in my truck.

Even towing my truck on a 20' bumper pull, the converter was great. gets out of the hole easily from a standstill and lockup is still so smooth. I just held it to the floor on the race tune and I can't express how smooth the lockup is even with the load behind it.

I don't have a lot of experience with converters, but driving the stock setup, then my ML and now this R converter the R is easily my favorite even with the stock turbo. It is so responsive, but still locks so smooth! The main reason we went with the R is we are planning on doing bigger twins on the reg cab in the future and didn't want to change to a looser converter later on. I'm very pleased with the end result thus far. Glad Josh and Mike talked this one through for our build!! :thumb::thumb::hug:
