You can. They fail just like everyone else's converters. The OP asked what will hold up the best in his situation and from what I've seen that's the 10531.

Evan I had no ill intentions to piss you off despite what you may have thought. I posted my opinion of what worked for me, sorry If I pissed in your cheerios, you will get over it, hope your in a better mood today

No hard feelings at all aside from what you did to my Cheerios :D I'm in a much better mood today  unfortunately for me I was born with a temper that while is much better as I get older still gets the best of me and pops back up to hello over the dumbest things. Just trying to help the OP out because I know how frustrating it is to have failures that could be corrected with the right parts. Hell at the end of the day he could put the 10531 in and kill it in short order to but from what I've seen it has the best chance of him getting down the track for good while .

I sent my 53-1 to Dave goerend to be dynoed to see if he could increase the stall, whether by rebuilding the SC or buying a Q from him. After dynoing, He sent me pics of the clutches all burnt to a crisp, said this things toast. His converter should stall bit more, too. So I bought one. Have yet to get it running with the Q so I can't verify the stall. Anyhow, I just recently cut open my sump filter only to find absolutely no contamination at all. Clean as a whistle. Which means Dave smoked the 53-1 on his dyno. I don't know if he did it on purpose or not, now I'm worried I went away from a bulletproof SC just to cause myself more issues. Only 10 hooks on that 53-1, the fluid, and the filters.

I'll report back in a week or so with the goerends performance.

Out of curiosity what was it stalling to?

You can't smoke a converter clutch on a dyno.

And I just got a call from Dave. I need to rectify this, as I was mistaken badly. The lining on my 53-1 was glazed with no material missing, so my sump filter diagnosis was absolutely wrong. There is no material to be found, t here was none missing yet. Even if there was, it would be stuck in the cooler. Add in the fact that Dave did not test lockup at all, we were only worried about stall at that point anyhow.

So I owe an apology to Dave, as I kinda threw them under bus for no reason. Matter of fact, he rebuilt the 53-1 for a great price to boot!

He's confident that his Q will stall more than the 53-1, based on the dyno test. So I'm excited to try.

I love the Q in my truck. I haven't tested the limit of its stall. But it goes to 3250 very easily and doesn't even begin to push through the brakes at that point. That's in 1st gear, 4hi, with 3.42 gears. So that's an overall ratio of 10.6. Your ratio figures out to 12.4.

I'm glad to hear you got it all sorted out. I've always enjoyed doing business with Dave. He's always shot straight with me and given me an honest answer, even if it wasn't of any benefit to him. I have never been dissatisfied with any of their products either.

My intention was not to throw him under the bus, even at that point when i saw my sump filter and said 'no lining material at all, what the heck?'. Just was stating my experience. He is a straight forward guy and i enjoy the factual conversations with him.

I love my SC 1053-2, spools my turbo with ease. I have almost 20 hooks and a couple dyno session's on it with no issue's.

Me and my son dropped the trans yesterday . The converter looks cooked , it's a real pretty blue and purple color on the billet cover end of it . It also sounds like a baby rattle when you roll it around . So I'm pretty positive that the bearing assembly is gone and the rattling noise is the needle bearing rolling around in there . Shipping it to them today . Spoke to Dave yesterday . We shall see
