I have a CCLB and wish it was shorter many times. If you only load it up a few times a year maybe a small trailer will work better. CCLB is fine on the road, but sucks big time in tight cities and parking lots. I also have a straight centerlink so that makes it worse...
I load the back up on my 2500, but I have airbags. Does not help on paper if you are in one of those states but you can make it more than safe to do

You have what we like to call "vaginitise". First you put 35s on and now you dont like your long bed. Shesh :D

I liked my CCLB this week! But if you don't need it the thing can be a pain

I knew that I wanted the long bed because I was going to tow a 5th wheel. The price between a 2500 and a 3500 after you add the long bed, tow mirrors and cab lights are not that much differant. I went with the duelly but if you are looking for MPG's go with the singles. I get 11.5 MPG towing a '32 5th wheel, 15 empty and 18 empty on the hiway.

Thanks for the feedback. I have some thinking to do. The cclb is great in theory but may not be as good in practice. But the ccsb may not be enough at times... Does anyone have 3500 cclb / srw real world mpg's? The drw someone said was getting about 18 empty. Seems great for a dually if ya ask me.

Would you be getting maybe 17-18 around the city without the lift and tires? I will have practically NO money for any mods. I'll get my Bullet Bed-liner and my HUGE RT series A.R.E. cap (http://www.4are.com/product/rt/). That will chew up the boss ladies patience with spending on the truck.... Besides, any mods I do would be to increase the MPG's. I don't care what it looks like. Just how it functions.

Corvettekent, do you need a long bed to tow a 5th wheel or is it just easier to tow? I do plan on purchasing a newer camper in a year or two. I was looking at the 5th wheels. Would I be able to tow one with a short box?

MPGs are all over the place with these trucks, not going to notice much of a difference between the CCLB and a CCSB, not that much weight difference. MPGs on the newer trucks (all brands) are not that great unless you start deleting some of the emissions stuff

In my 08 CC/LB 3500hd SRW unloaded i get 15-16 mpg around town to work etc. on a good long trip 18-19 mpg, Its completely stock with dpf and all (gasp!) Pulling the old mans 9500 lb bumper pull trailer i was down to 13-14 mpg, by no means a flat or straight road, way better than his 5-6 mpg with his 03 2500hd 8.1/allison
If you have a long bed now get a long bed.

We have one of the first Dmax 3500 SRW's and it's long bed crew cab.

Parking lots can be a bitch, but it tows far better than my short beds. It has the turning radius of an aircraft carrier though. Wish it had rear steering.

I never would have thought the decision would be this difficult. There are good points for both. Thanks for the advice. If others have more input please feel free to post! :cool2:

It's better to have the lb , like you said you pack a lot of crap in it, so the extra space will be greatly appreciated! As far as parking goes, you will get used to it real quick, even with my lift and phat meats I can manage pretty damn well in tight spots, I usually just park on the outskirts, that way I have no problem exiting and I AVOID DOOR DINGS!!!

:roflmao: LMAO! It's got to be new car syndrome! My old 99 work truck I could care less about the dings. But my wife's new '12 Grand Vitara gets parked where nobody wants to! NO-MANS-LAND!!

I have a 2500 cc / long bed listed below

parking lots can be difficult but you will learn what you need to have as far as space fairly quickly.
As noted above turning is like turning a battle ship in a bathtub - once again you get used to that fairly quickly.

i drive fire trucks so I am used to poor turning and parking problems.
If they 2500 and 3500 srw are close in price I would spend the extra and get the 3500 srw just to have the extra capacity.

I love my truck and I get an avg 16.5 over the life of the truck approx 44k miles mechanically stock.:)
