How many of you guys are running welded front diffs? I'm thinking of doing it on my pulling truck project, sees very little street use. I have read up on some of tr threads on here but just want to know if it's worth getting an e locker or just welding it.
Thanks
Adam

Thats what mine is ... The ol Lincoln stick job :thumb: Just soaked it dont the night before with brake clean and let it dry out and made 3 total passes stopped and chipped it between the passes ... held fine for me all last summer .... its ready for round 2

I see guys saying they wen through the vent hole? What's the best and easiest way to actually do it?

We removed and split the case on mine. I don't remember having an issue? Unless your talking about getting that stupid stub shaft out!! That was a pain, don't put that stupid ass clip back in during install lol. The only way welding versus a locker would be a problem in my eyes is it you keep breaking the collar lock on the ps axle. Which you might want to upgrade to say fleeces big one piece axle on that side. Then you wouldn't be able to steer without the front axles locked. But I haven't seen any reason to upgrade to that yet, but I'm no 2.6 truck!

Any pics on how someone has welded the front diff? I'm curious on this myself. So let me get this right... If I weld mine, in 2wd the PS slide collar will still disengage so turning is no issue only thing is the driveshaft will spin correct? And when locked into 4x4 everything totally locks in just as if you had an e locker or air locker being the PS collar locks back in?

i wouldn't want to drive it on the road locked up and have to turn in the winter.

hell no, specially on ice!

If anyone runs a true lift kit, you need to think twice about welding the diff unless you have an aftermarket front drive shaft with a CV joint at the t-case end if you DD it

Correct. I don't see what y'all's argument is about the 4x4 locked up. To me I'd only use that racing or pulling. Which you'd want it locked. And in the mud and snow it works better to have it locked up to get unstuck!

Maybe someone needs to take me to school! I don't see a single negative, only benefits. Who drives in a parking lot getting groceries with it in 4x4 anyways

dont weld it through the vent hole, just split the case. I ran a welded front for a whole season as my dd and no problems.
