Hi, this is my first post on the forum and I’m not sure if this is the right place to put it, but I need help. My truck suddenly started making this weird noise today and I am not sure where it is coming from or how to solve it. It freaks me out cause I don’t want my baby to break and I don’t have the money to go replacing things that don’t need fixing. I don’t think I can upload it here sadly. It sounds almost like a wheel on one of the belts stops turning for a second or two and then starts again. It’s very audible at idle and sounds like it’s coming from somewhere near the middle of the engine. It reminds me of a very loud vibration from a phone on silent. Thanks ahead of time!

Wierd Noise: Cont

Okay so I ordered a new serpentine belt and idler pulley for my LLY and my belt came off today on the way home from work. Got her home fine with no overheating or any issues, just a little stressful. But I checked the pulleys since there is no longer belt there and what I believe is the idler pulley is making a little noise (it matches what came in the box) so I will replace that, however another pulley was absolutely shot. Will try to attach a photo but it is right below and to the right of the idler. Not sure what it is.

Why do I keep doing this?

If the belt flew off, then chances are you did have a pulley seizing.

BTW, I merged your new thread into your older one. Its better if you keep all the info in one, so the solution ends up being seen with the original question.

Thanks to everyone who responded, as it turns out it was my idler going bad, I also found that the tensioner was getting a little rough. I was able to confirm this when my belt blew off on the highway and the idler was all sorts of messed up, but thankfully I had all the parts and she went into the shop immediately.
