Start with truck
03 Chevy 2500hd
159xxx miles
Intake 5in exhaust Efi live tuning for stock trans
Transmission has slipped a few times (3-4) cause I'm and idiot lol
Installed Reman injectors myself 10k miles Ago cause of oil dilution runs great

In the last few days the trans has been overheating haven't had much time to look into it cause we are busy at the shop I only drive 30 min to and from work never overheats until after 45 min to an hr. Tonight coming home truck died driving no codes I have fuel at filter and check port cranks but no start like no fuel. Gave it a shot of ether and it fired with a cloud of black smoke, and kept running. I checked gauges had rail pressure no codes so I drove it home with no issues. Went and it fired right back up 30 min after being home. I'm baffled. Any ideas?

What is the temp? Trans, coolant, and ambient. What's the rail pressure? A log would be good.

You might be pulling air somewhere. How did it die? What happened.

Also, if you like your pistons the way they are keep off the ether.

Just a half spray of ether not even .5 secs
Coolant was 200
Trans was 170 at the time
Ambient was 80ish
Rail wasn't on screen at moment but it was normal when it started up later
Maybe a big gulp of air but why not again?

How hot does it get when it's over heating?

That's a normal trans temp, highway driving? That's awfully high coolant temp though. Unless you were towing?

I'd look at the fan clutch and make sure the cooling stack is clean.

In what manner did it die?

The operating temp for coolant is 185 to 210 depending on when t stat opens. Trans got to 280 on Sunday but haven't let it get over 220 since. I think I just sucked up a bit of air cause my tank was low but light wasn't even on yet. It started and ran this morning for 20 min before work I didn't drive it tho cause I don't want to be stuck on the highway in planning on building the trans soon just waiting for the income gonna scope it out a bit more later today

Yea I know man but there isn't much I can do about it I just have to watch how long I drive it's not like I don't know what temps should be I was just curious if anyone has had something like this happen before, I am a diesel mechanic for a living I build engines and transmissions for heavy equipment

The tstats are 180 and 185. Take a while for them to open though. Regardless it's hard to get a lb7 to 200 empty. 90* driving home at 75mph and got to 181* coolant.

That's really high, I'd be dumping the fluid and changing both filters. Fluid level good?
