i'm going to be going to air-water for this upcoming season along with an enclosed weight box and plan on putting the ice chest in the box.I'd like to get everyones thoughts on where to put the ic. I've seen them put in the spot where the pass battery goes also in front of the radiator. What gph pump should i be using? last the ice chest in the weight box how many gallons should it be? should i line the box with anything like styrofoam to insulate it i can't imagine the ice lasting long in a metal box on a 90 degree summer day. any input would be appreciated

I've seen guys use anywhere from 50 to 100 lbs of ice per pull. Were using a 500gph Rule bilge pump, but some have used a lot bigger/more expensive pumps.

we run 2 500gph pumps, IC is mounted between rad and grill, i run about 70lbs of ice, 5 gal of water, there will bemaybe 25lb of ice left after 1 pull, if a pull of situation arises i add rougly 30~40 lb more ice to whats already in the box after draining some water out!

I think if you measure the returning water temps after a pull, and if they wild higher than the water leaving the box, that would indicate you could push a lot more water through i/c. Obviously if you run the pump long enough beforehand, you can get the i/c temp way down, but what about the last 100ft of pull? Thats when it counts.

how are you guys running 2 pumps into one line going into the ic? i just wanna make sure it get the right stuff not that i hook it up and the pressure of the 2 pumps blows the line apart

Rich, It's all about trial and error. Talk to Eric over at 7.3performance. He could probably point you in the right direction.:thumb: On a serious note I would think one pump pushing from the reservoir to the cooler and one pushing from the cooler to the tank would be the most efficient setup. But I don't know anything.

Hahaha....that just made my morning

I am also looking into a setup like this and trying to do my homework, but not finding much. I'd really like to find more on sizing the intercoolers, I know I want roughly a 2000hp core, but want to know why, other than cause its what I was told to get.
