Naw,... They have a smog tester at IH 20 and S Hulen St(geting on the on ramp). they have a sniffer on both sides that stand about a foot n half tall. They have cones set up also... I've floored my truck going by them couple of times... Never heard anything about it.... Then again, mine doesnt blow any smoke.. So I guess here in Texas, they just monitorin' it..

Well got home after nice day out to find a letter from (CARB) california air resource board. so I open the letter allready knowing what it is. dear sir your vehicle was observed produceing exess smoke at such and such location wich is above the curent legal limits of californias exceptable standards. All thoe this is not a fine it should serve as a warning to you that you should inspect and fix your emisions equipment and bring them back to factory standards. further infractions may include 1st fine $800 2 second fine revocation of your regestration by the chp untill it is fixed. Also along in the letter was new standards for trucks idleing trucks may not idle at all to run ac fan heaters or ptos at any time. first ofense will result in a 1,200 fine  so any one wondering if those stupid sniffer on the side of the road are for gas only well heres your answer. so a warning to every one out there. or you may be the next one with a letter or ticket in the mail. off to drink a beer:D and put a tow tune in :(

We got that letter :( They're sooooo gay, I can't believe how much the fine is. We used to try to smoke them out, but not anymore

Was this from a road side sniffer or did somebody call it in? I remember getting one of these myself 15 years ago when I still had my '88 one ton with the 6.2L. It didn't come from CARB or the AQMD but some "activist" group. Someone called it in on one of those 1-800-clean-air (or something like that) and didn't know it was a diesel. However, at that time there wern't any smogs regs really on the books and that's obviously changed.

I forwarded your youtube video to CARB.

Just kidding.

Actually that's something to think/worry about. Remember it's not just us (the diesel folk) reading these threads and watching the videos (not just here but on any public forum). When it's posted up about how we "smoked out some prius" anybody can read it and anybody can see it. It just gives them more ammo. Something to think about.

I know out here if the D.O.T. spots you they can pull you over ,specifically with commercial reg.

I had someone call the cops on me for it,called it Road Rage. :D

Was like this some dope was in the left lane going 50 mph in a 55 zone with about 6 cars behind him NOT counting me! I rolled out into the right lane to pass (illegal) got in front of him set the cruise at 60 MPH and just rolled into it on a hot sticky humid 90 degree day. Very and I do mean VERY smokey roll into it.

Guy finally catches up follows me off the exit turns right ,I left and I get home. Next thing I know there is a cop at my door.

Nothing happened as the guy wouldn't come down and actually file a complaint. I played dumb anyway to the cops questions, beats me I had no problems offfffficer.
