Well got home after nice day out to find a letter from (CARB) california air resource board. so I open the letter allready knowing what it is. dear sir your vehicle was observed produceing exess smoke at such and such location wich is above the curent legal limits of californias exceptable standards. All thoe this is not a fine it should serve as a warning to you that you should inspect and fix your emisions equipment and bring them back to factory standards. further infractions may include 1st fine $800 2 second fine revocation of your regestration by the chp untill it is fixed. Also along in the letter was new standards for trucks idleing trucks may not idle at all to run ac fan heaters or ptos at any time. first ofense will result in a 1,200 fine  so any one wondering if those stupid sniffer on the side of the road are for gas only well heres your answer. so a warning to every one out there. or you may be the next one with a letter or ticket in the mail. off to drink a beer:D and put a tow tune in :(

Thats funny Tommy .

Before my truck broke I flogged one of those inspection set-ups at an on ramp just for the hell of it .

I wonder if you actually got sniffed or if someone on the road reported you blowing big smoke .

I can think of a few people that might have wanted to call in on us coming home from work .

Ive seen them on onramps to FRWY's all through central Orange County . Looks like your crossing a beam of timing lights but bigger around . Both sides of lane . Usually on a single lane entrance position . And there if a Van parked there usually with cables running to it . Always assumed it was smog sniffer guy . One was at 91 frwy and the 57 frwy interchange . Onramp from 57N to the 91W . End of onramp . Saw the same thing on other onramps around here over the years .

Even saw a smog inspection random thing awhile back happen over by Glassell / Katella in Orange . Looked like every so many cars . Police were helping . Just didnt get waived in , but the car behind me did . It wasnt a DUI stop you could see the guys were state guys .
