That would be one heluva durability test!

Really like to get truck at 500hp.
His cousin I talked to had some older brodix heads.. while they had issues at over, 1000hp.. logic would say they should be fine at 500 range.
Obviously intake/exhaust manifolds would have to be addressed for increased air flow.. I'm pretty sure the s
OEM stuff is choking the camshaft I got in it now. Above 2500rpm

I swung by wagler last month to BS.. definitely like to throw set of their entry-level heads on and put some mileage on them.. last time I check new bares between gm and wagler wasn't much different in cost like 10-15% difference

I can't wait to put there new style billet crank to the test on road miles. Lots of shit talking on billet cranks on some pages I just laugh at those people, and laugh harder when there crank breaks lol. And yea I'm pretty stoked about using there heads!! S series for mine!! Wagler and kusilek have really changed the game over the last few years I'm going the route of applying some of those things they have developed for pulling trucks to a drag racing/street application!!

Lbz, built trans, efi by Danville, Danville 68, full egr delete, mbrp down pipe, 5" mbrp to 7" stack, ppe guages, custom traction bars, airdog2 165, ppe fuel rail mods, s&b, afe blade runner, Arp head studs..died March 2015

Parts collected for the build. SoCal super damper, SoCal billet flex plate, SDP S400 kit, II 85% CP3, PPE manifolds/up pipes, PCV reroute. Slowly but surely lol

Billet crank is little much for what I'm doing
I can make the argument for efficiency, by MPG increases, and ROI especially so if we go back to $4.00 diesel again.. sure the oil field guys would love to see $100+ barrel prices again

Oh yea haha I see you said 500hp you will be fine all day with a new stock crank. I was referring more to these guys over 1000hp all the way up to 2000hp who are risking a 20k+ motor to a stock component known to fail at many different power levels. I come from the gas world and that mentality I apply to the diesel world, when my old man and I built a motor for a LS or whatever we were doing it always got a billet crank, I just don't trust stock components in a high power street truck or heavy competition vehicle for that matter. It just doesn't make sense. I know guys have broke billet cranks before with the old style billet cranks, the new style with shortened rod ends and more material added to counter weights have been doing very well so far!

I have two broken crankshafts to my name both under 500hp neither broke due to HP. Got new LML crankshaft in current engine

1000hp+ tow pig would be nice.. my checking account isn't that fat yet :D

Damn!! Haha and I here yah. My trucks been down for almost 2 years saving for exactly what I want to do with it. I was never a very patient person his has been a test I mean I LOVE my truck and everything about these things, I've dedicated my life to them. Just medically retired from the army and have a small diesel shop. I worked in them on the side for the last year I was in the army! My truck will finally be back together this winter hopefully! With a pretty nasty build!

Good info guys, thanks. I assume the billet heads would be for short duration/ high HP drag racing and pulling?
For what I want to do, I think I need water jacketed heads....

Yes, they will be for one pass and then need cooled down. There for dedicated pullers or drag racing only.

I have been running Wagler heads since 2013. Like everyone has said I had problems with the first set but since he went with the HIP casting all has been good. He has a new company doing the castings now and Jeremy said it's night and day better than what he was using. I run the X heads with water as I still drive on the street once in awhile. My new Wagler motor made 1733hp on Danville's dyno with Mark tuning it, and that's with the factory LLY ecm!!! I wouldn't hesitate to use any of Wagler's stuff.

Thanks for the input Brett! I'm definitely set on wagler heads and actually sold off the SoCal stuff that I had for my motor and am going with a full billet Callie's/wagler rotating assembly!! I start ordering parts in October I'm so stoked!! Truck was down for 2 years while I was in the army and now that I'm medically retired I have the time and money to finally do this bitch justice!! Your truck has been a big inspiration to me personally! Thanks again for sharing your experience! Can't wait to see what else the your truck can do!

What did you end up doing for Pistons this build if you don't mind my asking Brett? I herd Ross was putting out a forged street piston and that's what I'm waiting on now
