Well I bought a camper last week and took it out over the weekend. The trip I took was 500 miles round trip and I didn't have any problems while towing and temps were under 200 during the trip. The next day I was going to work and noticed a vibration start at around 40mph and continued till a cruse speed of 60mph. The vibration seems to stay now but the severity of the vibration changes. I took it to a local tranny shop and he took it out for a drive with me and told me he though it was shuttering from the torque converter and that I should leave it alone. Honestly the vibration during the ride with him wasn't that noticeable like prior. I did change the tranny fluid with a new internal and external filter about 1500 miles ago. The fluid had a tint of darkness to it but no burnt smell. The truck is a 2005 2wd ccsb with about 129000. I have always had a little vibration at 45-50mph but never at 60 with this much vibration. Originally I though it was the 2 piece drive shaft but the shop I took it too says different. I just don't want my tranny to leave my family on the side of the road.

When the converter locks there must be " 0 " rpm slip. Once it locks, roll into the throttle pretty good without making the trans downshift. You will probably see the rpm's start to rise. They must not rise with a good converter clutch.

Ok after lock up at around 60 mph cruising the converter had a range of 0 to 12 rpm. After reading your post Mike I am guessing the torque converter clutch is bad? My next question is how long could the converter last and if it did go how much damage could it cause?

Mike L. and thunder thank you for the help.

Right now it's dumping burnt clutch material into the heat exchanger. Drive it normal and keep your foot out of it. Should be fine for a while. Try not to tow too much.

Mike what's the best way to clean one of your coolers and the factory heat exchanger? Or does most of the material get trapped in the exchanger?

My truck has had 4 different converters in it and they have always showed between 0-20rpm slip when locked up. Stock tc was like that too. Not sure if its normal or not, but that's the way it has always been

I see the same thing with my trans. It's bad when your tc is locked and you aggressively apply throttle without making it down shift and you feel and see that number jump to 100+rpm.

I honestly never got on it when I was checking the slip and looked at the numbers. This just started Tuesday morning after towing on Monday and I have never noticed vibration beyond 50 mph before.

What are you reading it with? I see the same thing reading tcc slip with my torque app. Always been like that from stock to built trans. I remember when I took my truck to mike l and had him check it out, his tech2 did not see any slip. So I think it depends what you are reading it with also. When I started seeing it jump to 100+ rpm when applying throttle hard and not letting it downshift I knew it was going out the window. I also felt it shaking the truck at the same time it was slipping.

You need to do what mike l said to do in post #6 to check if the tcc is slipping. If the rpms start to go up you might feel the front end jumping almost like wheel hop but on the hwy. Another thing you might feel is when the tcc is slipping it feels like your driving over a wash board.

I used an autocal. I know Mike said use a tech 2 but I can't imagine the number could change that much. I have the torque app but I can't say I trust some of what they have on it I could see where if the pids are not set up right it can be very inaccurate.

I would trust the autocal. At the time the torque app was all I had. When I felt the shaking and saw the tcc slip on the torque app jumping to 100+ while the tc was locked I knew it was slipping.
